Head of Localization Services

Amber is looking for a Head of Localization Services to join the core team in Montreal. You will be managing the localization services, which includes all translation and localization QA operations. As a subject matter expert in Localization & Localization QA, you will develop strategies, build a team up and provide effective solutions for the localization needs of our internal teams, clients, and partners, from scoping to project delivery and beyond.

You will be reporting to the Head of Development Support Services (DSS) and dotted line to Head of Operations in Montreal, will work closely with LQA Project Manager and Test Leads and coordinate Localization work with a community of in-country linguists to make sure that all projects respect deadlines, budget, and all other requirements, while ensuring utmost quality in delivery. You will be one of the main points of contacts with our clients and partners requesting Localization & Localization QA work.

About the role:

Vertical Leader

● Establishing and developing Localization processes, strategies, and best practices

● Defining internal Localization workflow alongside Amber’s development teams

● Evaluating costs and preparing quotes adapted to each project

● Working with People Ops to source and hire new Localization Testers and working with LQA Leads to onboard and schedule all required localization testers in time for each LQA project

● Monitoring each project from beginning to end with the help of Localization Coordinators & LQA Test Leads

● Tracking project budgets, schedule, milestones and providing useful updates

● Assessing and monitoring quality, progress and KPIs for each project, identifying areas of improvement

● Working closely with Amber’s Business Development team to prepare and present proposals, pricing, quotes, plans and solutions to clients and partners

● Reporting to the Head of Operations and Head of DSS, quickly informing them of any critical problem

● Periodic reporting (may be weekly, monthly, and quarterly) to Head of DSS on projects statuses, people, expenses, and growth

● Assisting the Head of Operations and Head of DSS with any other tasks when needed

● Monitors team motivation and implements actions to improve employee satisfaction

Project Management

● Overseeing a community of linguists based in-country, managing their availability, contacts, and prices

● Onboarding new linguists through a strict quality evaluation process

● Coordinating translation projects with the community of linguists, scheduling tasks and deadlines with them, managing cost and budget

● Ensuring all translation files are done in MemoQ and/or other dedicated similar tools for the linguists and returning the translated files in the format needed for the projects

● Making sure the teams have all the right tools, files, instructions, and devices, and that everything is ready and functional before the start of projects

● Performing evaluations of the community of linguists and the LQA team, addressing problems in a timely manner and participating in their evolution

● Making practical use of internal and external translation tools needed for each project

● Giving clear instructions and feedback to the localization test leads and the community of linguists, and working together to ensure high quality services

Client Engagement Experience:

● Discussing with clients their upcoming and ongoing project needs

● Presenting Amber Localization Services in conferences and client meetings

● Communicating with clients to manage their expectations and to help them reach their business objectives

● Providing clear and accurate reports to clients and other project stakeholders

● Preparing QBR’s, postmortems and other project reports

● Participating in conferences and possibilities of travelling to meet clients and partners

What we are looking for:

Hard Skills & Knowledge:

● A minimum of three years of experience as a project manager of localization services (both Translation/Localization and Localization QA) within the video game industry

● Experience using mobile, PC and console devices and knowledge about their terminology

● Excellent understanding of the multicultural and multilingual aspects of localization

● Excellent knowledge of Office and/or G Suite

● Excellent knowledge and experience with MemoQ and/or other similar tools

● Excellent knowledge and experience with various QA tools (e.g.: JIRA, TestRail), CAT tools (e.g.: XTM, Trados) and CSM localization tools (e.g.: CrowdIn, XLOC, Gridly)

● Knowledge of AI automatization tools (e.g.: Machine Translation) is an asset.

● Excellent English communication skills

● French communication skills are an asset

● Native level in a language other than English is an asset
