We want to build the best we can deliver and we believe wholeheartedly in the value of exceptional diverse talent. The Legal Department seeks a Legal Counsel in Manchester, UK to join their team. This position will work closely and collaboratively with team members and subject matter experts across the organization to effectively manage legal aspects. We are currently developing Star Citizen, a record breaking multiplayer online space simulation game, and Squadron 42, a cinematic single-player adventure set in the same universe. We have staff on hand for each office to address and research the legal aspects of our business in different parts of the world. The Legal Counsel reports to the General Counsel. Provides a full suite of legal advisory services across a broad range of legal and regulatory matters and liaises with various stakeholders in UK and abroad. More specifically, the Legal Counsel will handle, or assist with: Provide legal advice for the Legal Department and other departments with respect to UK and international legislation and regulatory requirements; Maintain current knowledge of UK and international legal developments, regulatory requirements, and market standards which are relevant to CIG; Help manage outside counsel relationships; Draft and review legal documents and reports; Create and update contract templates; Manage the company's intellectual property portfolio and enforcement thereof; Assist in developing and updating internal policies, procedures, and guidelines for CIG; Perform case management and oversight disputes as well as litigation in conjunction with outside litigation counsel; Ensure compliance with corporate and other regulatory requirements, including with respect to the company’s foreign subsidiaries; Ensure that the company complies with applicable data privacy legislation, including updating data privacy policies; Conduct legal research, preparing research notes and legal opinions on specific topics; Participate in and present at internal meetings. Minimum Qualifications A member in good standing with the Bar of England and Wales; Excellent academic grades. Please provide the respective info with your application. 3-5 years of experience within a tech company (UK or U.S.) or within a private practice law firm (UK or U.S.); Experience in one or more of the following practice areas: Corporations, Intellectual Property, Contracts, Entertainment, Media, Publishing, Regulatory Compliance, Data Protection and Privacy, Employment and Labor; Very good IT knowledge and skills (MS Office etc.). Basic coding skills are a plus. Very good oral and written English skills. What would we expect from our Legal Counsel? Strong analytical skills that help you resolve client and legal concerns practically and efficiently; Confident in engaging and interacting with sophisticated stakeholders, internally (middle and senior management) and externally; Ability to effectively communicate legal advice to a diverse range of stakeholders; Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment; Excellent at managing multiple, concurrent files and priorities while delivering on commitments; Prior experience in the video game industry and/or personal interest in video games is a plus. Other Occasional travel is required.
