Job Overview
Based in Guildford, Wargaming UK is looking for an exceptionally skilled Lead technical Designer to assist in creating the next big free-to-play PC title from Wargaming, the company that brought us World of Tanks and one of the strongest free-to-play PC game companies in the world.
In this role, you will be expected to deliver well designed, game viable heros on-time, on-budget, and to specification. You will help to communicate the Hero design vision to the talent across multiple studios, manage the insource/outsource requirements of an ever-growing product & ensure timing deliveries of Hero features to the highest standards.
The candidate will have to be a hardworking self-motivated team player who is able to communicate daily with the Creative Director, Design Leads and Project Management to ensure that briefs are produced, feedback is given, and assets are tracked and delivered.
They will need to possess excellent verbal and written skills and be able to both take critique and give feedback to external partners, participate in group discussions on both a developer & managerial level.
This role is a job that requires strong communication between other production departments and the production group. The role is required to be a facilitator and provide mitigations to any problems that arise between schedule and quality.
We are looking for someone with a good sense of humour who can integrate themselves seamlessly into our team & studio culture, a solid singing voice, sweet dance moves, and an ability to pun will all stand you in good stead.
Reports To
You will report to the Design Manager
What will you do?
- In conjunction with the Design Manager, coordinate the day-to-day activities for the hero team. Includes coaching, mentoring, and developing core values that the team can align with and execute on.
- Be a key participant in the hiring process for designers
- Conduct annual reviews and goal setting for all members of your team.
- Help set schedule and hero design expectations.
- Help maintain technical expectations.
- Help define the hero content creation process from pre-production through completion.
- Ensure communication and cross team coordination with the partner studio/outsourcing management
What are we looking for?
- 6+ or more years of increasingly responsible experience in Game Design.
- Possess excellent verbal and written skills and be able to both take critique and give feedback to external partners
- Experience working with Unreal 4 and Blueprint
- Experience managing teams of people with sensitivity towards all levels of design experience
- Extremely organized and proficient overseeing large project schedules. Experience in working in Agile. Experience with JIRA or similar software a major plus.
- Must be passionate about playing and making video games for the PC and gaming consoles.
- Worked on a couple of published games.
- Ability to collaborate with others to manage a large group of highly motivated and creative people.
