Lead Technical Artist

The Lead Technical Artist works with the Sr Art Development Director, Art Director and Programmers in leading research, innovation, and technical quality of the production. In addition they are responsible for managing the Technical Art team, and assisting in the planning and execution of work.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritize and set objectives for the Technical Art team members
- Provide team members with ongoing and meaningful feedback on performance and development -- ensuring positive acknowledgment of all achievements, both big and small
- Communicate with impact and promote an open dialogue within the team
- Empower team members with clear expectations and hold them accountable for their key results
- Collaborate with Team Leads to identify and develop art production processes and technologies that meet artists’ needs for creating high-quality art with limited resources
- Be aware of potential risks to the project and bring them to the attention of management
- Establish quick, efficient and clear pipelines in collaboration with team leads, accounting for the artist's needs as well as technical requirements or other limitations
- Champion of Tech Art constraints, pushing for top visual quality and performance
- Produce and maintain documentation on tools, methods, processes, and engine limits for consultation and future reference
- Develop and deliver training programs for artists on new tools and workflows as required
- Participate in the development of technology roadmaps for the specific needs of the project
- Collaborate with all production teams to answer questions and solve complex technical and art-related challenges, identify and communicate risks, share feedback and best practices while maintaining a balance between creative vision and technical constraints
- Participate in the development of technology road maps for the specific needs of the project
- Stay up to date on trends and methodologies in current and future graphics software and hardware to develop early planning of tools and processes
Required Qualifications
- Confirmed leadership skills, either through previous roles in a Lead position or multiple examples where you handled extra responsibilities
- Artistic eye with strong knowledge of the creation & integration of 3D art
- Extensive experience and knowledge of:
- Scripting languages and programming concepts
- Industry standard DCC tools and workflows, both for 3D and 2D content
- Game editors and engines
- Experience developing for both PC and Mobile platforms
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills, especially with regards to illustrating technical processes.
- Enjoy working in a collaborative, iterative, and agile process.
- Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation for both a technical and non-technical audience
- Ability to give and receive critique and drive the iterative process
- 6+ years experience working professionally in the Unreal Engine
- At least 1 shipped AAA title in the Lead Technical Artist Position
Desired Qualifications
- C++ experience or Computer Science degree
- Extensive portfolio with examples of professional work (e.g. art, scripts, tools, simulations, etc.)
- Blueprint or asset scripting abilities.
- Musician/Music lover
- Passion for live events
