Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold, new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and team-oriented Lead Systems Designer to help us build an outstanding AAA, 3rd Person Action/Adventure game. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, lifetime gamer with shown experience implementing incredible player-facing systems and mechanics in other AAA titles. You possess a solid understanding of Unreal Engine and are deeply creative with a great sense of what makes gameplay fun, immersive and engaging. You have high standards in everything you do and are committed to crafting memorable gaming experiences. You put the player first.
What You'll Do:
- Work with the design team and creative leadership to develop holistic gameplay and player engagement systems with compelling hooks and captivating long-term appeal.
- Design, build, and maintain documentation for the games systems and mechanics.
- Be a project specialist in one or more areas of game-wide systems design.
- Partner with other development teams to bring designs to life in-game.
- Mentor designers and help them grow in their careers.
What You'll Bring:
- Strong creativity with a great sense of fun and engagement.
- Player empathy and a player first design approach.
- Expert proficiency communicating, championing and memorializing designs.
- Strong understanding of the discrete elements game systems are built from, and an ability to problem solve both holistically and on a per-component basis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid understanding of scripting or programming and familiarity with Unreal Engine.
- Passion for making and playing games.
- Enthusiastic, positive, team-oriented; must have the ability to interact and collaborate with all departments and teams.
- Self-sufficient and self-motivated, can perform duties with little oversight.
