Amazon Game Studios is seeking a Lead Systems Designer to join our game team in either San Diego or Irvine, CA. In this role, you will work with our Creative Director to design the captivating game systems that keep players entertained and rewarded for an unannounced multiplayer action RPG.

You are someone who enjoys pioneering into unknown frontiers. You already have experience in building wildly inventive and successful games, and are excited to forge a future of systems design that respects and values a player’s time.

Key job responsibilities
• Work closely with the Creative Director and leads to design, implement, and own game systems, features, and content.
• Generate documentation to clearly communicate ideas and goals.
• Prototype, implement, and balance system variables to create an entertaining gameplay experience for a diverse array of play styles.
• Work with all departments on the scheduling and integration of systems designs, as well as feature development goals and execution.
• Work with Product Management to develop data-gathering methods for game balancing and tuning, then implement changes based on the data.
• Work closely with QA to ensure quality throughout the product lifecycle.
• Design, learn, and optimize new tools and workflows with minimal supervision.

Basic Qualifications

- 5+ years of Games Industry (supporting title Development, Release, or Live Ops) experience
- Shipped 1+ AAA titles as a game designer.
- Experience with Unreal Engine in AAA game production
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Equivalent Experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Strong math and data analysis skills.
- Deep understanding of a breadth of game systems from loot and rewards to social and metagame.
- Passion for contextualizing systems with game narrative.
- Passionate gamer with in-depth knowledge of current commercial game titles and an avid RPG player.
- Has been a key contributor from prototype to polish.
- Experience building a team for production and working with external developers.
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $111,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $207,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
