Job Description
As Lead or Senior Software Engineer, Health Algorithms and Biomedical Research, you are responsible for researching and conceptualizing novel biomedical algorithms with user worn sensors for health and fitness applications that fuse spatial and visual computing paradigms. You will be the team biomedical expert on the intersection of spatial computing, artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering. You will work closely with business segment leaders and systems design to understand needs and requirements from customers, and will be tasked with investigating cutting edge research that can be applied to the fulfillment of those requirements. You will be hands-on in prototyping and refining initial biomedical and health algorithm concepts, and will assist the software development teams in their translation into production environments.
Responsibilities
- Explore, research, and prototype methods and algorithms for health applications, including the detection and measurement of clinically and biologically relevant biomarkers, and assess their feasibility prior to productization.
- Investigate and stay relevant with current research in biomedical sensor technologies and biomechanics, and research ways to apply promising technologies within a spatial computing paradigm.
- Design and execute initial data collection and analysis mechanisms and protocols for algorithm exploration.
- Assist business segment leaders and systems engineering in understanding customer needs and exploring methods to address those needs.
- Design, write, and publish research papers as well as white papers detailing novel methodologies.
- Generate innovative ideas and concepts, and provide technical expertise and documentation for patent application filings.
- Write elegant, maintainable, reusable code, leveraging test driven principles to develop high quality algorithms and services.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of industry experience as a biomedical researcher, biomedical algorithm developer, and/or data scientist.
- 5+ years of experience working in biomedical research for health / medical device applications.
- 3+ years coding & debugging, preferably in Python.
- Proven research capabilities in biomedical sensors and biomechanics required. Experience in the study of eye movement is highly desirable.
- Experience in the application of biomedical research to spatial computing, augmented reality, or virtual reality is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of deep learning frameworks, especially TensorFlow, required.
- Proven track record of developing novel ideas and concepts in biomedicine and bioengineering, including a portfolio of patents and/or research papers.
- Experience in design and development of deep learning, other machine learning algorithms and other complex biomedical algorithms for health and wellness required.
- Knowledge of computer vision algorithms is a very strong plus.
- Experience in the development of algorithms for measurement and monitoring of health and medical applications is a strong plus.
- Proven ability and experience to use data to draw the right conclusions.
- Strong experience with software practices such as source control, testing, code review. Knowledge of git is highly desirable.
