Certain Affinity is an exclusive, independent Austin developer comprised of a tightly-knit group of experienced, no-nonsense veterans committed to solid work/life balance. We’re best known for co-developing numerous AAA FPS games, though we are also creating compelling new games of our own.
Certain Affinity is looking to hire a Lead Engineer to lead a team of engineers with passion, focus, and drive. This role will balance hands-on programming and managing people. If this type of role is what you have been looking for we would love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers at a variety of experience levels
- Turn ambiguous technical requirements into well-defined tasks that are delivered on time
- Hire and mentor less experienced engineers, providing feedback, career growth, and development opportunities
- Lead by example; 70% hands-on programming, 30% people management
- Facilitate team communication and collaboration
- Help establish and evangelize departmental processes and best practices
- Find efficient and creative solutions in existing code bases
- Be responsible for your team’s network, memory, GPU and CPU performance
Requirements
- Experience leading a team of 4 or more engineers
- 5+ years of professional programming experience
- Proficient in C/C++
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
- Creative, motivated, focused, passionate, and results-oriented
- Experience building development pipelines and tools for internal and external teams
- Familiar with core game systems such as scripting, UI, rendering, animation, physics, and data pipelines
- Comfortable in large established codebases
- Self-motivated and able to subdivide and distribute complex tasks
Extra Credit
- 1 or more shipped titles (especially in a lead role)
- Development experience in Unreal 4
- Console experience (XB1/PS4 preferred)
- Experience with additional languages (C#, Python, JavaScript, Go, etc…)
- Passion for multiplayer action games
