Skeleton Key is a new game development studio and division of Wizards of the Coast. We are a group of industry veterans who are guided by the belief that empowering our teams and providing the proper time, tools, and support we can foster a creative culture where everyone can do their best work.
Our new studio will be located in Austin, TX, and we are looking for a passionate and dedicated Lead Concept Artist to join us and help create and visualize the vision and tone for our game.
Reporting to the Art Director you will play a meaningful role as we concept and kick off pre-production by helping to crafting original and imaginative concept art for characters, environments, and other game assets. The ability to work both independently and in cooperation with Leads and other artists to complete assignments and a demonstration of strong artistic interpretation skills is also required.
What You'll Do:
- Collaborate with the Creative and Art Directors to develop the visual style, mood, and tone for a new AAA horror game through research, iteration, and rich visual details in your concepts.
- Build AAA quality concepts for environments, characters, creatures, vehicles, and other creative elements that will act as a blueprint for the final product.
- Work the design team to help them concept and visualize their design intent.
- Craft environment mood paintings, lighting studies, and color keys.
- Lead and work with external concept artists, writing concept briefs and providing clear feedback.
- Contribute and help establish the tone, vision, and overall art direction for the project and give it visual personality.
What You'll Bring
- 7+ years professional experience as a concept artist and/or illustrator with at least 2 shipped AAA digital game titles.
- Strong understanding of color theory and how color can be used to affect tone/mood or player focal points.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating skills.
- Proven drawing skills and knowledge of human and creature anatomy.
- Ability to show visual storytelling within an environment design.
- Traditional art mechanics with strong graphic design proficiencies (color, light, composition, layout, and typography).
- Experience working with other artists and sometimes leading them on team projects.
- Takes initiative to craft and evangelize the creative vision for the game.
- Passion or experience with dark, moody, and unsettling art styles.
