Lead Concept Artist
Scopely is looking for a talented and experienced Lead Concept Artist to join our team remotely within the US.
At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play, every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues, or through our deep connections with our communities of players. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.
We are in the early stages of development on an ambitious unannounced title, creating a team of talented and passionate game makers that will join us on this exciting journey to bring one of the best-loved intellectual properties of all time to a worldwide mobile audience!
What You’ll Do
This is a key position at the heart of the art team: an extremely creative, foundation level position, ideating and creating stunningly magical ideas and visuals that propel the project forward! It will also be a direction and control point by which the internal team will manage and guide external artists, ensuring their success and maintaining a high quality standard, reviewing and directing art as it is subsequently developed.
This artist has excellent color skills, capable of visualizing a wide variety of emotions through basic form and hue alone. The ability to make the abstract relatable and humorous is key, as is the ability to make simple forms widely appealing, funny, scary, and relatable all at the same time. Animated renders, quirky gifs, and ‘out-of-the-box’ visual items are the arena in which this artist can make a huge impact early on - this is a deeply creative position where the artist will stretch beyond the bounds of traditional concept art.
The Lead Concept Artist will also be responsible for partnering with the Art Director and Technical Artist as concepts are transformed into game ready assets, offering critique, red-line callouts, and paint overs to help bring the art up to acceptable standards.
- Help create and establish the game’s visual identity, working closely with the Art Director
- Collaborate with the team in developing strange, abstract concepts, turning them into appealing scenarios with humor, peculiarity, and intrigue
- Interpret a well known IP into an updated, modern style yet leave it instantly recognizable and iconic to an immensely wide audience
- Work alongside the broader art team to contribute visual ideas and rapid iteration brainstorming in early feature development to more clearly communicate game design ideas to stakeholders and licensors
- Create a variety of concept art for environments, characters, and props, ranging from loose thumbnail sketches to polished key art. You will create engaging and alluring concepts that immerse players into our world while providing guidance and inspiration to the 3D artists executing the idea in a game engine
- Establish visual guidelines for and help create mood boards, lighting keys, color scripts, screenshot paint-overs, BlueSky ideation, line art, callout sheets, storyboards and graphic design
- Work with external partners to maintain a consistent level of quality and style, communicating the how’s, why’s, and ambition of what we do
- Navigate through ambiguity and embrace change with a positive mindset
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in games as a concept artist
- Multiple shipped mobile titles
- Produced art from conceptual to highly polished, public facing assets
- Skilled in traditional art (non-digital), such as sketching, drawing, and painting, etc
- Expert knowledge of 2D software
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering software
- Experience with mobile gaming and best practices
- Multiple projects showcasing effective management skills, working with internal & external teams and artists
Bonus Points
- Experienced working with an IP
- Familiarity with Unity
Please include a portfolio or PDF/links to examples of your work in the application.
For candidates in CA, CO, NJ, NY and WA, the annual salary range is $144,200 - $180,600, plus equity, bonus and benefits including healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, pet insurance, paid holidays, paid Scopely free days, and unlimited paid time-off. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

We are committed to creating a diverse, supportive work environment where everyone is treated with respect. We are committed to providing equal employment opportunities and welcome individuals from all backgrounds to join us & embrace the adventure!
