Would you like to work on some of the biggest franchises in gaming? Certain Affinity, the largest independent video game developer in Austin, Texas, is opening a location in Toronto, Canada and we’re looking for exceptionally talented people to join us. Our Toronto studio will collaborate with our Austin location, and together we’ll be co-developing AAA FPS games and creating our own compelling new IP.
As a Lead Artist at Certain Affinity, you will work a team of senior developers to create and implement high-quality art in the downloadable games space. You will be asked to exercise a wide range of artistic skills from art direction and interface design to environment art and idea creation and be responsible for the final outcome of all artistic aspects of AAA PC, and console downloadable titles.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Art Director and Creative Director to create, implement and manage the direction and quality of 2D and 3D assets
- Work with artists internally and externally to create and implement 2D and 3D assets
- Collaborate with the technical team to optimize the art environment and maintain optimum performance across all art assets
- Collaborate with art and technical teams to define and maintain processes and pipelines for internal and external teams
- Collaborate closely with the design team on all art content and user interface design
- Work closely with the marketing and business teams to develop an artistic style and key marketing art for target markets
- Collaborate with the production staff to create and maintain project schedules and deliverables
Requirements
- Experience working with Art and Creative Directors to achieve consensus and maintain a consistent visual style across a large range of art assets
- 6+ years’ experience in the game industry
- 2+ years in an art leadership role as a game developer
- Experience using proprietary editors, software and tools
- Shipped at least 2 downloadable titles as an artist
- Strong foundation knowledge in traditional art
- Experience with user interface design and development including icon development, game flow, and font creation
- Ability to manage and maintain relationships with publishing and development partners as well as outside vendors and outsourcing teams
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills and the ability to problem solve issues that involve multiple disciplines
- Ability to understand and communicate visual direction through words and images
- Expert level knowledge in Max, Maya, or other 3D software
- Expert level knowledge in Photoshop
- Solid grasp of performance optimization processes and mobile game-art constraints
- Understanding of the construction and application of materials and shaders
- Self-driven, organized and quality oriented
Extra Credit
- Experience working on games across multiple platforms
- Experience with Unreal game engine
