Lead Animator

Bethesda Games Studio Austin is looking for a talented Lead Animator to join our team in developing quality games for PC and consoles. The ideal candidate will report directly to the Art Director and will be responsible for helping to define and ensure high visual quality animation standards, as well as creating real-time animation for in-game character.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direction, leadership, mentorship, feedback, and training to the Animation team
• Produce top quality, hand-keyed animation assets
• Implement animation assets into the game engine and iterate as needed
• Troubleshoot and solve animation issues with all departments
• Organize and accurately estimate animation tasks
• Work with our character team to ensure models meet requirements for proper animation
• Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure a cohesive vision and experience
• Contribute to the creative process with original ideas and inspiration

Requirements:

• Solid understanding of pipelines and the nature of production cycles in the industry
• A strong portfolio which demonstrates a broad background with in-game keyframe animation
• Experience animating humans and creatures
• Extensive knowledge in Maya
• Experience animating in 3DSMax
• Experience in creating animation state machines and blend trees in a game engine
• Strong understanding of game animation and implementation
• Receptive to constructive feedback and willingness to work through an iterative process
• Remain accountable to deadlines
• Excellent organization and communication skills
• Understanding of the character development process
• Aptitude for quickly learning new systems

Desired Skills:

• 5+ years game industry experience
• Previous AAA game development experience
• Experience working on live games
• Experience with motion capture transfer, editing, and cleanup
• Motion Builder experience
• Capable or rigging character assets (MEL, MAXscript)
• Passion for video games
