Ubisoft Halifax's User Research Lab is looking for a new Junior User Researcher to join our team. This role will work closely with the User Research (UR) department to provide in-depth analysis on a wide range of games from a growing number of Developers. The Junior User Researcher will assist in conducting, analyzing, and reporting on user tests to provide constructive improvements to the Game Designers. We are looking for an individual with great attention to detail, critical thinking, and exemplary interpersonal skills to join the team!
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the UR Manager to ensure Play Test goals and research requirements are agreed upon, with the appropriate methodology being selected for each test.
- Ensure Play Test methodology is understood, and adequate preparation work (e.g. pilot playtests, develop checklists/questionnaires, etc.) are completed prior to each Play Test.
- Actively play and familiarize yourself with the tested game before scheduling Public Play Tests, to assist in creating personal hypothesis.
- Act as a Moderator during playtests by ensuring all steps of the methodology are followed by our Play Testers; closely follow the established checklists.
- Work closely with the UR team to assist in collecting/analyzing data, as well as writing a report/presentation of said data.
- Become Familiar with a wide range of mobile devices to determine which device may be appropriate for each playtest (e.g. Android, IPhone, Windows, Huawei, LG,).
- Support the development of Ubisoft Halifax's database of available Play Testers, through player outreach and advertising.
- Maintain our player database, while working with the UR Manager to communicate future playtests.
- Assist in the selection and scheduling of appropriate Testers for future games.
Qualifications
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in a similar research oriented position.
- A Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, User Research, Human Factors, or other related field, considered an asset.
- A track record of strong communication/interpersonal skills - including the ability to present results to various internal/external stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- A demonstrated history of utilizing up-to-date research and outreach methodologies.
- Highly effective time management and organizational skills.
- A background in game design or other video game industry experience considered a huge asset.
