ABOUT US: Archiact Interactive is a Vancouver-based Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) Studio that develops new and unique ways for people to play games and interact with each other. We partner with IP holders, large publishers, and tech brands to create and deliver immersive, high-end game experiences across multiple platforms with a special focus on building new tools for cutting edge emerging technology.

OUR GAMES: Recent titles include DOOM 3: VR Edition (on PSVR), FREEDIVER: Triton Down (on PC, PSVR and Oculus Quest), and MARVEL: Dimension of Heroes (a smartphone-powered Superhero experience built for Lenovo Mirage AR). We are currently in the early pre-pro stages of a new and highly innovative AAA project with leading industry partners and are searching for the best and the brightest to help us transform the world of VR and AR game development.

ROLE OVERVIEW: This is a permanent position starting in January 2022. We are looking for a Junior Technical Animator to join our team on an incredibly exciting new project. You will be part of a small team of AAA vets who believe that VR’s time is now and want to make the next big VR game event. The Technical Animator partners closely with the Technical Animator & Animation Director, 3D Artists, and Animators on various VR/AR/MR projects. You are responsible for ensuring all assets are authored and implemented in the appropriate manner and will maintain the animation pipeline and tools, while resolving any technical issues to keep the animation team operating at peak efficiency.

This role is for anyone that is looking to start in the industry or for those that are looking for something new so they can grow as a Technical Animator.

We are a Vancouver-based studio but are happy to consider candidates from all over Canada to work remotely.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with Animators, Character Artists, and Effects Artists, to establish functional in-game assets and provide support for skinned mesh and animation rigs throughout production.
  • Work with Technical Animator and Animation Director to identify optimization challenges, apply your expertise to troubleshoot, develop workflow tools and share techniques to overcome animation development challenges.
  • Ensure that assets integrate with minimal friction into the game engine, without sacrificing visual quality.
  • Provide concise, constructive feedback and solutions when identifying recurring issues / needs, documenting recommendations to improve limitations or optimal use cases in pipeline and tools.
  • Troubleshoot gameplay and architecture issues which might impact content creation and integration, while developing workflows to compensate for such limitations.
  • Work with Team Leads across disciplines to enhance gameplay, environments, UI/UX, and cinematic elements.

REQUIREMENTS:

MUST HAVE:

  • 0 - 1+ years of game dev experience (1 shipped AAA title and/or VR experience a plus). This may include Co-ops, Placements and/or Internships.
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine or similar engine packages.
  • Knowledge of one or more 3D packages including modeling, texturing, rigging and IK setup, animation, scripting and tool creation.
  • Demonstrated skill in creating and developing fast, efficient and elegant character and facial rigs using Maya, Motionbuilder, and proprietary tools.
  • Good communicator; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Team-player with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to take direction and implement feedback.
  • A showreel or portfolio demonstrating your skills.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Knowledge of Scripting/Coding language ( e.i. Python, C++).
  • Experience working with VR/AR hardware.
  • Avid VR gamer.
