Head of Creative (Video Games)

We’re looking for a talented and seasoned Head of Creative to lead the design and artistic vision of a slate of new, innovative games. The successful candidate will have deep bench strength working with external studios to build new IP, creating compelling storylines, imagining immersive worlds, and bringing new life to characters that inhabit them.
Using the latest technology in web3, NFTs, and AI, you will envision interactive environments where players establish a unique persona, competing and collaborating with their favorite social influencers as they face challenges and progress through exciting worlds.

Job Overview
- Collaborate with external development studios on all aspects of game design, including the core loop, combat systems, player progression, level design, power-ups, systems design, events, UI/UX, balanced game economies, and single / multiplayer game experiences
- Develop internal game IPs with engaging characters, compelling narrative, immersive environments, and multi-season story arcs
- Oversee comprehensive Game Design Documents that clearly articulate the vision and gameplay, including full walk-throughs, wire-frames, art direction, audio design, and storylines
- Guide original design concepts (both digitally and hand-drawn), utilizing expertise in color theory, typography, imagery, layout, and web3 design principles such as interactive elements and immersive experiences
- Oversee the look and feel of the game including storyboards, color palettes, characters design, animation, and VFX
- Deeply understand the needs and motivations of a global audience, utilizing data and player feedback to inform game design
- Leverage trend intelligence and knowledge of historical/current markets to inform design decisions and execution for specific project classifications, including web3 trends and emerging technologies
- Collaborate with other internal and external leaders to align the game's creative direction with a deep understanding of technical constraints, budget needs, committed timelines, and MVP requirements
- Own communication around the IP, which includes developing and creating key images, demos, and descriptions that help communicate our vision to teammates, stakeholders, and partners
- Participate actively in team playtesting and provide feedback
Ideal Experience
- 10+ years experience developing combat or MMORPG games as a creative executive
- Proven ability to conceptualize and execute innovative, visually appealing designs with a strong understanding of web3 aesthetics and user experience
- Collaboration with external game studios in creating new IP and Game Design Documents
- Game creative direction across multiple IPs and/or projects
- Deep understanding of using scanning technology to create and animate 3D images
- Managing and guiding writers, artists, and other creative team members
- Developing partnerships with internal departments and external agencies
- Experience building games for VR and PC (console a plus)
- Possesses a deep understanding of IP world-building and narrative design
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and internal/external teams, effectively communicating complex web3 concepts
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to effectively manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Thrives as a member of a cross-functional multidisciplinary team
- Excels in online collaboration with a remote team
- Plays broadly across multiple games of varied genres
- Gets excited by learning new skills and helping wherever needed
- Ability to translate strategic direction into compelling designs that adhere to established brand guidelines and messaging, adapting for web3 audiences and platforms
- Knowledge of blockchain technology and web3 principles (e.g., decentralization, tokenization, NFTs)
This role is fully remote, and can be based anywhere in the US, although West Coast location is preferred.
Salary range: $150,000 - $250,000 depending on experience
