Head General Counsel, Labor & Employment

Summary

What You'll Do

Operating Unit Support:

• Serve as the head legal partner for the Company’s global labor and employment matters, including mobility, benefits, compensation, immigration, discrimination, and employee relations
• Manage counsel who provides support for the Company’s global environment, sustainability, and governance program on legal and compliance matters
• Lead a team of labor and employment attorneys and paralegals providing both labor and employment advice and contract support
• Provide accurate and timely legal and risk analysis services to business partners, including analyzing, researching, reviewing, interpretating, drafting, negotiating, and providing advice to resolve legal issues and disputes
• Engage and leverage the global Legal Team’s Centers of Excellence to ensure consistency and conformity with Aristocrat’s global legal protocols, standards, and risk appetite
• Partner and collaborate with the operating units to anlayse the employment impacts of new business opportunities and help evolve the competitiveness of the Company’s offerings relative to jurisdiction-specific employment landscapes.
• Provide advice and direction on key strategic labor and employment issues, which could have material impacts on the finances, competitive positioning, risk appetite, and/or reputation of the organization
• Interpret and advise applicable operating units concerning relevant laws and regulations, evaluate options, and recommend mitigating actions
• Promote seamless teamwork and become an essential strategic partner to the business by aiding in their strategic goals and objectives, making internal customer experience a competitive advantage

General Support:

• Work on special projects where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
• Exercise wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments
• As an expert in the field, use professional concepts and Company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
• Support and role model the Legal Team’s Drive to Thrive strategy
• Deliver timely and solution-focused legal services while managing cash flow and achieving budget targets
• Operate as a sustainability champion by providing advice and counsel to our business clients and ensuring that all initiatives meet legal requirements and advance our reputation
• Manage internal and external counsel resources
• Champion a commitment to honesty, integrity, and responsible corporate behavior by fostering a compliance culture within the organization where employees feel comfortable reporting potential violations or misconduct
• Consistently demonstrate a commitment to the values of the Legal Team
• Consistently demonstrate a commitment to developing the core competencies of leading self, leading others, leading the business, leading the management of risk and compliance, and leading for the future
• Translate complex, technical legal issues into understandable advice which is practical and based on a thorough understanding of commercial reality; communicate effectively with business colleagues and other stakeholders and build sustainable networks internally and externally
• Add value to the business through an appropriately organized, resourced, and informed team which operates across all parts of the organization
• Understand legal, regulatory, operational, and reputational risks, evaluate courses of action against such risks, and proactively seek to mitigate them

What We're Looking For

About You

• A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and a member in good standing with a State Bar
• 15 years minimum experience as a labor and employment attorney either with a law firm, corporation, or both
• Gaming or technology experience preferred
• International labor and employment experience preferred
• High emotional intelligence and ability to create trusted working relationships across and outside the organization
• Ability to work autonomously as well as cross-functionally with other teams and to influence and build effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization
• Ability to manage competing priorities, simultaneously drive numerous projects, identify, and resolve business issues, and earn the confidence of executive business partners
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, drafting, and negotiation skills
• Exceptional business judgment and analytical skills
• Experience handling all aspects of labor and employment matters
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, metric-driven environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities
• Ability to uphold and demonstrate the highest level of integrity in all situations and recognize standards required by a regulated business
• Exude passion, a sense of urgency, and a consuming desire to win now
