Financial Controller
About the role:
As a Controller, you’ll have a broad scope in financial & operational reporting and business planning. You’ll play a key role at Amber Studio Canada as the first dedicated role in Finance for this office. In collaboration with Finance colleagues in our group, you will manage and utilize the systems that support our daily activities.
Responsibilities:
Day to day
- Manage the Canadian bank account
- Track, review, pay, and store all invoices
- Create and submit invoices to clients and track their payment
- Prepare monthly cost and revenue estimates for Localization and LQA operations
- Help establish rates for Localization and LQA services
- Review expense reports from Canadian employees
- Plan and document the studio’s government subsidy programs (ex: tax credits for multimedia titles, training subsidies)
- Assist HQ with any other Finance queries
Month End
- Monitor cash flow
- Support month-end actual reporting (HC, costs, contracts) in HR admin tool
- Review and estimate employee benefit costs (ex: group insurance)
- Review monthly close timetable, assisting management with accurate & timely month end reporting
- Partner with other Finance functions - Tax/Treasury/Statutory/External Reporting/ Controllership for ad hoc projects focusing on process improvements for reporting of Actuals and Forecasting
Systems support
- Manage, control and update local accounting map based on the global accounting matrix
- Facilitate continuous improvement of processes including adoption of automation
- Liaise with external consultants on application development and with IT on software and application upgrades, including development, design, testing, and documentation
Control Environment

Requirements:
- 3+ years Finance work experience
- Bachelor's degree or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Good technical accounting skills
- Knowledge and previous experience with IFRS standards an asset
- Experience in process optimization
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making for broad issues without precedents
- Able to prioritize work to meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks
- Strong analytical skills and a flair for numbers
- Ability to think creatively, highly driven and self-motivated
- Highly organized
- Honesty, integrity and reliability
- Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity
