The role @ Sumo
As a result of growth in the business an opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager to join the Sumo Group (Sumo) Finance team. This is a new role which report directly into the FP&A Senior Finance manager. It will provide support to the Group FP&A function as well as acting as strategic finance business partner to the Group’s newly established publishing business, Secret Mode, and to some central Group support functions.
Sumo is a dynamic, growing business with multiple Finance Managers across the Group and as such the specific requirements of our Finance Managers may change as the needs of the business changes. We also regularly assess the skills, experience and development needs of our Finance Managers and may look to rotate the Finance Managers’ responsibilities from time to time to reflect these.

As Group FP&A finance manager you will:
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the Sumo Group reporting and accountability matrix
- Take ownership of the consolidation process using the Group’s financial reporting system (TM1). This includes responsibility for:
o Updating the consolidation system for new acquisitions and projects
o Control of the Group consolidation at each month end
o Managing Group central cost recharges and allocations
- Assist with the production of monthly Board reporting alongside the FP&A Senior Finance Manager
- Support the FP&L Senior Finance manager in the co-ordination and consolidation of Group-wide Budgets and Forecasts, including delivering and presenting these at a Board level
- Act as the principal business partner for Group service functions (IT, HR, Facilities), providing detailed insight, analysis and support within your BP areas to aid financial understanding and drive decision making. This includes responsibility for:
o Monthly reporting for your business partners, identifying risks and opportunities in the plan and driving actions to address them
o Preparing of monthly rolling forecasting and twice yearly forecasts for your BP areas
o Ensuring expenditure adheres to Sumo Group policies and procedures;
o Delivery of ad hoc analysis and business case support
- Assist with the development of junior team members (Assistant Finance Manager – FP&A)
- Support the delivery of continuous improvement, identifying and implementing change projects across the finance team and wider business;
- Support on ad-hoc projects as required.
As strategic business partner to Secret Mode you will:
- Be the key finance contact for the Director of Publishing
- Own the Publishing forecasting model
- Work cross functionally to establish financial processes, policies and controls in the early phase of the Publishing business
- Report monthly on the performance of Secret Mode, identifying risks and opportunities to the plan and driving actions to address them
- Prepare monthly rolling forecasts and detailed budgets and forecasts for both profit and cash flow
- Support on ad hoc analysis and business cases as required
- Ensure all expenditure adheres to Sumo Group policies and procedures
To be successful you will:
- Be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Have experience of financial reporting and providing commercial insight to a range of stakeholders
- Have strong presentation skills, both written and oral, ability to flex style depending on audience
- Be strong at building relationships with key stakeholders including negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritise in a dynamic business.
- Show a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Be IT literate, with strong Excel skills.
