Finance Director - Defence

As Finance Director, you will be responsible for the overall financial strategy of the Defence and National Security business unit (DU) at Improbable, leading on its execution. You’ll be on the frontline managing budgets, customer pricing & financial reporting obligations, as well as working closely with leaders across the business to provide commercial leadership, helping establish a data led operation.

You will be working with the CFO of Improbable to set our long term financial strategy, our annual budget & leading on reporting across the business.

What you'll be doing:

• Working with the Defence CEO, CTO, VP Ops, VP BD, VP Engineering to establish the long term financial and operational strategy
• Working with the Improbable CFO to establish the investment needs for the DU & supporting on investor discussions
• Establishing our budget, managing re-forecasting & reporting as required, tracking, analysing and forecasting top-line performance & costs - revenue, bookings, partner investments, research investments
• Partnering with leaders across the DU to support on budget management
• Managing business reporting and analysis, identifying key performance indicators and insights to optimise DU performance
• Leading on delivery of financial and some non-financial information internally & for our investors
• Leading on relevant commercial strategic initiatives, including pricing and supporting negotiate complex transactions
• Managing our risk profile with the leadership team, contributing to the risk matrix
• Partnering with the commercial function to approve complex commercial agreements: model economics, working with legal to advise on non-standard terms
• Oversee commercial contractual obligations, including billing & relevant customer financial reporting
• Support corporate finance initiatives including (but not limited to) investor relations, fund raising, board meetings and company-wide process improvement initiatives.

Accountabilities:

• Long range plan, budget & management - ensuring we have a clear long range plan and annual budget which supports business growth expectations, is underpinned by clear drivers and thoughtful analysis and delivered in line with the business cadence.
• Providing financial leadership to the business - aligning the wider organisation behind our financial drivers, key financial indicators and providing guidance to the teams when it comes to decisions with commercial implications and embedding data led decision making across the DU
• Overall business performance, identifying and contributing to areas for improvement and growth, as well as problem solving and contributing to the business plan
• Financial reporting, budget and investment management, cost controls, and repeatable business cadence with clear reporting and outputs that are predictable and consistent. Ensure annual, quarterly and weekly financial information and key KPI’s are delivered in a timely manner to key stakeholders in the business unit and corporate
• Customer & partner financial management - working with the commercial team, you’ll partner to establish the right pricing strategy, understand the financial reporting obligations of our relationships and deliver against customer reporting
