Experienced Technical Artist
We are seeking a Technical Artist to join Playdead’s art team. The ideal candidate will have strong technical experience working with game engines, and preferably additional experience with World Machine or equivalent terrain authoring software.
Your responsibility as a Technical Artist will be to support the other artists on the team with the more technical aspects of the art pipeline. This may include the creation of Unreal shader graphs, the development of blueprint-based tooling, establishing and supporting landscape pipelines with third party tools, and generally assisting with all technical art aspects of a large, third-person, open-world game. For all of these tasks, you will work closely with the animators, programmers and artists here at Playdead. We are particularly looking for a colleague who enjoys setting their own goals and taking responsibility for their own schedule.
We are working within a highly focused and ambitious vision, which requires adapting to the existing visual style while contributing your own ideas to the whole. More than anything, we are looking for someone who is excited about all facets of game development, as well as being passionate about gaming overall.
What will you be doing?
- Working within a small but dynamic art team, supporting the technical aspects of the art pipeline
- Collaborating with a dedicated team with high ambitions about visual and thematic design
Required Skills
- Professional working experience within a 3D game production is essential.
- An appropriate portfolio of work which demonstrates understanding various aspects of technical art
- Comfortable using computer tools and software to create terrain for an open world game
- This is a full time position at our studio in Copenhagen, Denmark so you need to be willing to relocate (we offer full relocation support)
Desired Skills
- Great communication skills and ability to work effectively on shared projects
- Experience with World Machine, Gaia, or other terrain generation software is an asset
- Familiarity with major game engines
