Avalanche Studios Group and its Expansive Worlds division is looking for a highly motivated Environment Artist to join our team.
Expansive Worlds is a creative division of Avalanche Studios Group and a leading developer and publisher of outdoor games. Since 2009, Expansive Worlds has been devoted to delivering highly immersive outdoor gaming experiences for millions of players and is best known for the long-standing and successful theHunter franchise.
The Position
As a World Artist you plan, design, build and iterate the world with all its layers; world, biomes, landmarks, locations, roads and rivers. So that it connects and presents itself beautifully. This involves terrain sculpting, material painting, location building, road editing, placement of landmarks and locations. You work closely with all other teams to realize the vision of the game.
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of AAA experience and with at least one open-world or free-roaming game shipped (or equivalent).
- An excellent understanding of level and world design principles from high-level world flow to crafting dynamic, evolving, moment to moment gameplay elements within.
- An excellent understanding of terrain topology and how it can be shaped to create innovative experiences.
- Experience in sculpting high fidelity terrain (both geometry and materials), believable roads and waterways.
- Strong knowledge of game design fundamentals with an understanding of how to craft a space that fully embraces systemic elements.
- Self-motivated in setting and reaching goals while able to produce results as part of a team.
- A great sense of technical know-how and functional problem-solving.
- Ability to communicate ideas and requirements to stakeholders.
- Passion for making and playing games.
Desired qualifications
- Can plan, build and iterate on open-world environments from basic foundations through to completion. Establishing key landmarks, locations and asset requirements.
- Production minded. Being able to quantify your work and collaborate with other teams to maximize your efficiency is highly valued.
- Experience with various game engines, editors and their workflows.
- Experience with World Machine, GAEA, World Creator or similar.
- Experience with Substance, Photoshop and other texture/material packages.
- Experience with Maya, 3DS Max or similar.
