Engineering Manager

As an Engineering Manager at PTW, As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of engineers, overseeing the development of gaming projects, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality games on time. Your in-depth knowledge of Unreal Engine and strong leadership abilities will be essential in driving the technical success of our games.

Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership:
   • Manage and lead a team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure their professional growth.
   • Set clear performance objectives, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
   • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation, creativity, and excellence.
2. Project Management:
   • Oversee the development lifecycle of gaming projects, from concept to release, ensuring adherence to project timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints.
   • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including artists, designers, and QA, to align project goals and drive efficient development processes.
   • Identify and mitigate project risks, develop contingency plans, and ensure effective communication of project status and updates to stakeholders.
3. Technical Expertise:
   • Demonstrate expert-level knowledge of Unreal Engine and its tools, frameworks, and best practices.
   • Provide technical guidance and support to the development team, assisting with complex problem-solving, code reviews, and optimization.
   • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in game development, Unreal Engine features, and industry best practices.
4. Process Improvement:
   • Identify areas for process improvement, efficiency gains, and quality enhancements within the development pipeline.
   • Drive the implementation of best practices, coding standards, and tools to optimize development workflows.
   • Continuously evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and techniques to enhance productivity and game performance.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
   • Foster effective collaboration and communication across teams, ensuring a shared understanding of project objectives, priorities, and dependencies.
   • Act as a liaison between the engineering team and other stakeholders, including product managers, artists, and designers, to facilitate smooth project execution.
   • Communicate technical concepts and requirements clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience of 8+ years in game development, with a focus on Unreal Engine.
• Previous experience in a leadership or management role, overseeing a team of engineers.
• Strong understanding of software development principles, agile methodologies, and project management practices.
• Proficiency in C++ programming language and scripting languages commonly used in game development.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for gaming and a deep understanding of the gaming industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Experience working on successful game titles released on multiple platforms.

• Familiarity with other game engines, such as Unity, and ability to adapt to different technologies.

• Knowledge of multiplayer/networking concepts and implementation in game development.

• Experience with performance profiling and optimization techniques for games.
