Engineering Lead (Mobile)

ustwo Sydney is looking for an Engineering Lead to work with clients and digital product teams (design, strategy, engineering and agile coaches) to launch digital products and define engineering excellence.
You’ll have people management responsibilities within the engineering team and are expected to champion new and creative technologies both within projects and across the engineering team. You’ll have cross-platform skills and be comfortable using the solution that will help solve the problem in the easiest and more effective way. You will be a champion for Mobile within projects and across the engineering discipline as a whole.
You will work closely on business development efforts to scope the technical portion of future projects and ensure projects are technically feasible and deliverable with your extensive and deep engineering experience across a range of sub-disciplines (Android, iOS, maybe other mobile technologies). You may have deep expertise in iOS with some understanding of managing Android projects, or vice versa - deep expertise in Android with some experience managing iOS Projects.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead or be part of the working team on projects working alongside designers, engineers and other disciplines to deliver high quality digital mobile products.
- Champion what is feasible in full-stack/mobile technology, finding technical and product opportunities and bringing awareness of these to ustwo and clients.
- Be available across projects as required to support technical decisions and direction.
- Provide technical input to business development (proposals and pitches) to ensure that we commit to the type of work that challenges the development team and is sized appropriately for realistic delivery.
- Ensure that platforms and solutions meet the client’s needs while also being technically feasible.
- Guide and support the engineering team to meet project and business needs as well as their growth and development.
- Provide engineers with high level advice, troubleshooting and direction.
- Support across platforms and technologies outside of your expertise, which could include mobile/full stack, QA, DevOps and other emerging technologies.
- Identify and implement ongoing improvements in our development processes and practices and champion best practice across projects.
- Understanding technology changes and trends to help us make the best choices about the kind of projects to work on, and how to implement them to industry-leading standards.
- Collaborate with engineering leaders in other ustwo studios (London, Malmo, New York) to share best practices and latest trends.
ABOUT YOU
- Deep expertise in either major mobile app platforms (iOS or Android, or if possible - both) and the affinity/interest in understanding tech platforms you are less familiar with - e.g. ReactNative, Node, etc.
- Solid experience of iOS and/or Android platforms.
- Understands systems architecture and platforms in the context of delivering large mobile and web products.
- Able to use the best tool for the situation and understand each one’s benefits and limitations.
- Experience with technical architecture, solution architecture and software best practices.
- Experienced with common patterns for designing and building scalable, reliable and secure software applications.
- Experience with unit testing and BDD (e.g. pytest, mocha, jest, jasmine, etc.)
- Experience working with Git flows.
- Knowledge of the latest libraries and techniques in Android or iOS - e.g. Rx, Combine, SwiftUI.
- Working knowledge of modern cross-platform intricacies and differences including accessibility standards.
- Able to provide accurate estimations and practical recommendations to ensure that projects are delivered within the available budgets and timeframes.
- Effective communicator with both internal project teams and clients, bringing everyone along the journey and working through conflict resolution ensuring the best result.
- Effectively build trusting relationships with ustowbies and clients.
- Welcomes feedback, giving it and receiving it.
- Able to work within an evolving, ambiguous environment (agency/consulting experience an advantage).
- Strong design appreciation and focus coupled with passions and experience working with Designers.
- Experience and interested in people management and the engineering teams growth.
- A continued desire to learn and share knowledge with the engineering team.
