Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a world class strategic finance leader to join our award-winning video game company in Irvine, California. Blizzard Entertainment is a premier developer and publishing of entertainment software. Overwatch (OW) launched in 2016 as Game of the Year and is a highly successful franchise with significant room for further growth. Overwatch 2 will build on an award-winning foundation of epic competitive play, and challenges the world's heroes to team up in epic PvE story campaigns.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a core part of our games’ leadership teams, successful business leaders at Blizzard need a unique mix of quantitative and qualitative capabilities. The same levels of innovation and craftmanship that our creative teams bring to areas like design and art, we expect from our Finance leaders in strategy, product passion, and financial rigor.
The Product & Strategic Finance Director is expected to manage the financial performance of the game franchise and drive sustained revenue and margin growth. This requires a unique combination of data-driven thinking to identify strategic opportunities, the creativity and passion to execute in player-centric ways, and the collaboration and influence skills to align with other passionate and invested teams.
This person will have frequent exposure with executives at Blizzard and parent company Activision Blizzard and will have two main dimensions of responsibilities:
Financial management
- Identify and execute growth strategies and initiatives across OW (organic, partnerships, and M&A). Identify opportunities, propose projects, oversee execution, and own the outcomes
- Partner with the Development and Product Management teams to drive long-term monetization decisions, including business model design, new investments in franchise (e.g., new titles)
- Co-lead game franchise’s major planning cycles, including Annual Operating Plan and Long Range Plan that focuses on growth and profitability
- Provide Development and Executive leaders with regular financial deliverables (e.g., quarterly re-forecasting and P&L, etc.) and insights into business results and risk/opportunities.
- Recruit key talents and develop next generation of world-class leaders
Business strategy
- Be an expert resource on industry business practices in the genre of the franchise, including business models/performance, live services strategy, and product pipelines.
- Propose in and out of game initiatives to drive engagement, retention, and monetization; work with analytics to report out on performance
- Build and foster strong cross-functional relationship across the business, from game development, marketing, to product management
- Increase the repeatability of our successes by sharing best practices and lessons learned with other game teams and bring the best of Overwatch to Blizzard.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must have the experience to drive the financial success of a complex, high growth AAA franchise. In addition, they will possess absolute integrity. Aligned with the cultural values and business focus of Blizzard Entertainment and the broader Activision Blizzard family, qualified candidates must demonstrate the following traits:
- Passion for and in-depth knowledge of Blizzard. Knowledge of the video game industry, especially in shooter category and games with strong live services
- 10+ years of business management experiences, including 5+ years of experiences in top tier management consulting, investment banking, or product management
- Excellent problem-solving skills, written and oral communications, team collaboration, adaptability to change, and analytical capabilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills to manage complex projects with diverse stakeholders all over the world (disciplines, regions, etc.).
- Deep knowledge in the key performance metrics that drive game performance
- Proven records of driving innovative initiatives to generate positive revenue growth
- MBA or equivalent professional experience
- Prior industry experience in gaming, consumer software, or entertainment. Prior functional experience in finance, strategy, or product management
