Content Communications Senior Specialist
Location: San Mateo, CA or Remote US
Position Overview:
With over 210m followers worldwide, PlayStation’s digital communication channels are among the most influential in entertainment.
The Content Communications Senior Specialist will support PlayStation’s social media program to better serve consumers and developers. This position will help lead the generation of compelling public-facing content (examples include articles, social media communications, videos, and more) within the scope of PlayStation.Blog, SIE.com, company social media channels, and various emergent content channels. This role will work with internal and external partners to obtain, create, optimize, and publish videogame and entertainment-related content, then measure the results and integrate key findings and insights into future content plans.
Role will plan and develop content focused on industry topics including AAA videogames, indie videogames, DE&I (diversity, equity, and inclusion)-related content, and more. Role will also support team content operations as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Conceive, plan, create, and obtain original, high-impact content for externally-facing PlayStation channels, including PlayStation.Blog, SIE.com, TikTok and other social media channels. Role will collaborate with internal and external partners to devise content plans that are appealing for external audience.
- Build and implement content plans for PlayStation.Blog, SIE.com, and social media channels that inclusively spotlights a wide range of games with diverse themes and creators.
- Maintain and execute day-to-day social channel duties such as copy-editing, fact-checking,securing approvals to ensure posts follow specific accuracy and timing requirements.
- Build plans to secure unique, valuable content from third-party partners and first-party studios for use on PlayStation channels.
- Support production of weekly Official PlayStation podcast, from interviewing developer guests, lead recording, and editing the show as needed.
- Fill in for other social media roles and editorial support as needed.
What We’re Looking For
- Education: Bachelor's degree -- ideally in related fields such as PR/Communication, Marketing, or Film -- but not required.
- 3-5 years experience in publisher/developer social media/community management, communication, or videogame media (with a branded blog, website, or other publication) required
- Excellent written communication skills to ensure accurate, grammatically correct public-facing blog and social media postings.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism in a corporate environment
- Strong time management and prioritization skills, with ability to succeed in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
- Extensive experience creating compelling video game content, particularly short-form content and longer in-depth writing. Unique or specialized content experience (podcasting, hosting, video creation, design, production etc) is also welcome.
- Experience working a high-traffic website, traditional media outlet, or agency is useful, as the position will deliver content and maintain strict deadlines.
- Preferred candidate will possess extensive experience in developing compelling digital editorial content, from short-form social posts, to feature-length preview/interview articles, to overseeing video projects.
- Knowledge of videogame landscape is strongly preferred
- DE&I communication experience, indie game knowledge, and/or corporate communication experience are also highly appreciated.
- Working knowledge of Photoshop and Premiere is desired
Freedom to act:
- Position will have light autonomy. Takes day-to-day direction on content decisions. Will work independently and from precedent in logistical components such as third-party outreach, content acquisition, and story editing.
- No sign-off or budgetary responsibility.
Problem complexity:
- Position will face mostly logistical/technical complexities with social media platforms and 3rd party content hosts. Moderate analytical and problem solving skills both in a technical and content sense will be required.
- Senior Specialist is expected to help identify industry news trends and to elevate potentially urgent events to the appropriate parties.
- Position will also need written skills required to copy edit potential posts in various states of completion.
- Position may face inquiries from press under deadline pressure, and will need to respond in line with company policy.
Level of impact:
- Position will be a valuable component on the sustainment and expansion of the current Social Media program, which acts as a core driver in our overall Public Relations and Marketing efforts.
- Posts and comments made by the Senior Specialist can have a very high level of public and media visibility and, potentially, impact.
Working Conditions:
- Work alongside Social Media and Public Relations teams
- Hours are typically predictable, but on occasion, the position will require attention outside of normal work hours.
- Infrequent domestic and international travel is likely surrounding major industry events.
