Concept Artist (CONTRACT/TEMP)

The Concept Artist is responsible for creating realistic fantasy concept art for characters, creatures, and other game assets. A successful candidate is expected to present a clear and comprehensive process of research and exploration that supports their final art and have a strong understanding of efficient ideation techniques. The ability to work both independently and in cooperation with Directors, Leads and other Artists to complete assignments and a demonstration of strong artistic interpretation skills is also required.
This is a full-time contract position available to work remotely or based out of BSE's Irvine studio.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Imagine, craft, and produce concepts that are highly original, realistic, and qualitatively in-line with other concepts developed for the project
- Work closely with the project Art Director and Leads to ensure the vision of the game is achieved
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary departments to hit visual and functional goals
- Create cleanly rendered final art as well as orthographic turnarounds and call-outs that support asset creation
- Seek out and define concept iteration improvement and efficiency efforts
- Create and publish workflow and process documentation
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- 2+ years of experience in the game industry, including two shipped titles as concept artist
- Outstanding portfolio that demonstrates a strong artistic style and design sensibility
- Strong use of research and reference material that supports idea generation and problem solving
- Superior eye for light, value, color and composition
- Excellent communication skills and ability to give and take direction as well as accept critical review of your work
- Expert knowledge of human anatomy, traditional and digital painting and drawing methods, and experience in Photoshop or other digital painting software.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience creating concept art for VFX
- Strong understanding of 3d and game art production techniques
- Some basic Maya experience (or comparable 3d software)
