Camera Operator (Contractor)

Niantic’s Engineering group is looking for a Camera Operator (Contractor) in London to capture street level footage. These recordings will be used by our computer vision research teams to invent new algorithms thus enabling new types of AR experiences in Niantic games such as Pokémon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite! This role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
Niantic Engineering leads the advancement of AR and other immersive technologies while creating engaging apps for a user base in the billions.
Responsibilities
This role is to operate a multiple camera rig for the UK division of Niantic Inc. (makers of Pokémon GO):
- Carry and operate a proprietary camera-rig following standard operating procedures.
- Acquire quality image data in the London area (initially), as per business specification.
- Working with the Project Manager to identify opportunities for data collection with regard to Places of Interest and/or street level images
- Calibrate cameras as needed.
- Inform Project Manager of status, and any unusual changes in process conditions, mechanical or electrical failures or malfunctions, unsafe conditions, etc.
- Responsible for checking equipment to make sure it is working properly and prepare equipment pre-filming.
- Comply with all safety, landmark and operating standards.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a production environment, preferred.
- Prefer evidence of filming on a range of cameras / lenses.
- Good understanding of image quality (e.g. blur).
- Take responsibility for valuable video production equipment.
- A self-motivated and reliable individual who can work to agreed deadlines, keep situational awareness, and coordinate with others in unforeseen circumstances.
- The ability to prioritise tasks and maintain safety of self and others.
- Good communication skills – especially verbal and using plain English.
- Professional and presentable.
