Position location: Winnipeg, Toronto, or Vancouver

Tangent Animation strives to find solid team players that thrive on collaboration and community commitment to build open-source capabilities. Tangent Animation is currently recruiting for an experienced Character FX Supervisor to work collaboratively with our studio team.
The Character FX Supervisor is accountable for managing a team of artists and making sure their work adheres to the production's schedule and delivers to the highest quality of standards. The CFX Supervisor will guide and give feedback to CFX artists on shots, request fixes, offer final approval prior to showing to VFX Supervisors. A solid technical background is also needed.
Supervise the CFX team and make certain the quality of the work produced from the department meets the show's requirements.
Provide guidance and train the CFX team and foster teamwork within the department.
Work in collaboration with production coordinators to schedule the team members.
Identify the workflows and the methods more suitable for each task, involving cloth rigs, fat/skin setups, grooming, etc.
Collaborate with modelling, rigging and animation department supervisors along with the VFX Supervisor, in finding the appropriate procedures for CFX.
Ensure project deadlines and milestones are met, as laid out by the Production department and the VFX Supervisors.
Requirements
- 3 years of work experience as a Supervisor or at least 6 years as a Lead CFX Artists level.
- 5 years or more of experience in features level CFX & Cloth Sim proficiency.
- Knowledge of Maya and Blender is an asset.
- Good artistic skills and an eye for natural motion in humans and animals.
- Advanced knowledge of cloth and hair required.
- Competency in rigging, modeling, and animation are pluses.
- A good generalist. A solid understanding of and experience with the entire animation production process from layout to compositing is a plus.
- Able to take direction and adapt to change.
- Shotgun experience or the equivalent essential.
