Build Engineer

Lab42 Games are looking to recruit a Build Engineer to maintain build systems for existing game projects, whilst developing strategies for improving and automating the build and test processes for existing and future games. You will be the first port of call to identify the cause of any build problems and will either resolve those problems yourself or communicate with other staff members to help resolve them. You may also develop and refine tests to improve the quality of the QA process.

You will work across several game teams alongside artists, designers, and programmers. You will work with Lead and Senior Programmers and production staff on the game teams who will assist you in planning your work. As part of your day-to-day management of the build systems you will assist the teams in maintaining the quality of game builds.

This is an experienced level role, with a strong expectation of experience within a professional software industry.

A large part of your job will involve communication with other members of the games teams to plan build system development and manage resolution of day to day build problems. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist with this.

This role requires:

• Experience with build automation tools, such as TeamCity or Jenkins.
• Experience with build tools, such as MSBuild, Gradle, Make or CMake.
• Familiarity with scripting such as Python, Bash, Powershell or Batch.
• Familiarity with version control technologies, such as Perforce, Git or Subversion.
• Experience with modern versions of Unity.
• Professional, paid experience of the above.

What we would like to see, but is not essential:

• Experience or understanding of build pipelines for game consoles
• Basic familiarity with C++, especially around resolving build errors or writing small tests
• Experience of game technologies, large scale build pipelines and deployment to cloud compute systems
• Experience with Unreal Engine 4
• Experience of building build solutions from scratch

In conjunction with World Snooker Tour we internally developed the officially licensed, photo-realistic sports/simulation Snooker19, the first in an ongoing game franchise, for all major Consoles and PC. That’s in addition to providing a range of development services and special projects to a growing client list which features Activision, Paradox, Sega, Klei Entertainment, Aspyr, Magmic, Ripstone and WayForward.
