Job Description
Type of Position: Permanent, full-time.
The daily life of an Associate Technical Director, Cinematics at Ubisoft Toronto
- Put in place and document the cinematic production pipeline (modeling, animation, characters, lighting, SFX, etc..) and assure the follow up;
- Create and test new tools to help the pipeline and/or departments within the cinematics team;
- Create, organize and lead training sessions for the graphic team members on the tools and techniques chosen and follow through that they are being well used throughout the project;
- Coordinate and act as an intermediary between the cinematics and the tool programming team when needed;
- Provide constant support to the cinematic team members;
- Produce a technical reference and/or technical constraints document, keep it current and communicate it so that the team can refer to it when required;
- Communicate regularly the technical constraints and their reasons to the team;
- Provide constant support to the graphic team in terms of the production software of the engines used;
- Produce documents on the tools, methods, training sessions, processes, and engine constraints for later reference;
- Regularly communicate technical constraints and their rationales to the animation team;
- Provide constant technical support for the tools and engine to every member of the animation team.
Qualifications
What it takes to make it
- Bachelor or College Degree in 3D art or animation or equivalent training or work experience;
- 3+ years’ experience, including 2 years as Technical Artist/Animator or Technical Director;
- 3 to 5 years pertinent experience in 3D real-time (Level Artist, Modeller, Texture Artist, etc.);
- Must have shipped a minimum of 1+ AAA game;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to draft technical documents;
- Resourcefulness in problem-solving;
- Well organized;
- Aware of new technologies and processes related to the industry;
- Detailed knowledge of the jobs required to produce a video game;
- Detailed knowledge of the technical constraints of engines and the different game platforms;
- Knowledge of 2D and 3D graphic software;
- Knowledge of an asset management system (ex : Perforce, VSS, Shotgun);
- Knowledge of at least one programming language (C++, Python, MEL, MaxScript, C#).
