Associate Researcher, UX/Consumer Insights

Los Angeles’ premier mobile games studio, Jam City is seeking an associate researcher, UX/consumer insights to join its team right here in the heart of the entertainment industry. At Jam City we have a fundamental belief that deep player understanding is key to innovation, increased player enjoyment, and marketplace growth. Reporting directly to the Director of Consumer Insights & User Research, this individual will assist with a number of research activities to help understand the “whys” that drive player behavior and decision-making. You will work closely with the Director of Research supporting a number of in-house qualitative and quantitative research projects from inception through presentation of results and recommendations, with the goal of running research projects independently by the end of the first year.
Our ideal candidate loves mobile games and is familiar with traditional research methods, as well as new approaches and original thinking.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support senior researchers with quantitative and qualitative research initiatives across our portfolio of mobile games
- Set up and manage our remote testing platforms
- Lead recruiting initiatives for playtesting
- Help program and QA surveys prior to launch
- Moderate interviews and focus groups
- Assist with the design and execution of research projects using a number of methods - including but not limited to surveys, playtesting, interviews, concept testing, usability testing, longitudinal studies, and player journey mapping
- Assist with data cleaning, report crafting, and the presentation/distribution of findings and results with stakeholders
- By the end of the first year, lead end-to-end basic qualitative and quantitative research projects independently
- Support and lead projects for our insight community of VIP players to gain agile and ongoing player feedback with our highly engaged players
- Help maintain our internal database of playtesters for in-house and remote playtesting
- Promote research best practices and evidence-based decision-making throughout Jam City game teams
- Take initiative to stay current with industry trends and best practices in the mobile games industry and in the games user research industry
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must love mobile games, particularly casual genres including Match-3, bubble shooter, and narrative; some interest in mid-core genres including RPG puzzles, strategy RPGs, and geolocation based games
- One or more years experience in UX or consumer insights research, preferably in the gaming space
- Expertise and training in research design, understanding of a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies (e.g. surveys, playtesting, competitive analyses, usability studies, expert review, questionnaire development and analysis, etc.)
- Ability to effectively create screening criteria, recruit research participants, build rapport with a wide range of players, and moderate playtesting sessions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Self-starter with passion, energy, enthusiasm to drive results and affect meaningful change
- Strong attention to detail, written and oral communications skills
- A team player, who thrives on working collaboratively, inspiring others and bringing out the best in the wider team
- Flexibility in a fast-paced, undefined environment
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with survey tools such as Qualtrics or Alchemer
- Familiarity with mobile game mechanics is a plus
- SAS, R, SPSS, Tableau and/or other analytics software packages a plus
- Previous experience working with data science and analytics teams a plus
- Experience creating and maintain recruiting databases for playtesting
- Experience with remote testing software
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation for this role. The range listed is just one component of Jam City's total compensation package for employees, which may also include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, certifications, location, business needs, or market demands. This range is based on a full-time position. This range may be modified in the future. In addition, Jam City provides a variety of benefits to employees, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan, life, disability, and accident insurance. Pay Range: $27.40 — $47.60 an hour.
