This role is a crucial piece of the Game Design team at MZ and will report to our Design Director as well as collaborate with our Designers and Game Team. You should be experienced in mobile game design, have knowledge of MMOs and virtual-goods based business models, and have a monetization intuition and understanding. Your designs will be felt and experienced by tens of millions of global players in the future; this is your chance to leave your legacy and be part of gaming history!
What you'll be doing:
- Create content for our games, including features, gear, in-game rewards, and new game systems. You’ll be hands on throughout the process, from initial design to launch
- Create and use statistical models for your features that analyze cost and benefit to player, and produce a result useable in a live environment
- Develop your content with agility in mind to support change in cost or scope, or the expansion of successful releases
- Playtest your content, perfecting each before handing off to QA
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers and Cross-Functional teams to facilitate a clear direction and to execute a flawless design
- Foster creative and scalable design solutions to grow your content’s scope over time
- Synthesize Theme, Game Mechanics, Monetization, and Social Features into an integrated product
- Post-release, monitor the game closely. This includes analyzing gameplay data for your content, responding to consumer feedback, and observing game market trends
Your background and who you are:
- 2+ years of Game Design experience in mobile and free-to-play games
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Game Design related fields
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and are able to synthesize game-play data to improve the game as necessary
- Ability to understand long-term goals while being exceptionally detailed oriented
- Must be proficient in Excel, and able to provide visual designs or rough mock-ups in an art program of your choice (Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketchup, etc.)
- Able to work productively under pressure and under tight deadlines
- Experience and success designing mobile-based online and social games
- Experience and success with social gaming feature-sets
- An ability to embrace an environment that iterates constantly - where good ideas triumph quickly
- Pride in creating a high-quality, addictive consumer experience
- A love of startups and a desire to be part of a team that achieves its vision quickly
Bonus points:
- People Skills: Experience with all aspects of game design disciplines: concept, level, progression, camera, combat, AI/scripting, interface, sound, monetization and playability testing
- Process: Have a solid understanding of how all aspects of design production work and how best to accomplish each task
- Planning/Implementation: Be extremely organized in the game design workflow from initial concept to final release and post-release support
