The Blizzard China Shanghai office is looking for an Associate Director to manage a new data platform that will power all our epic entertainment experiences in China. We are looking for someone who can architect a data platform that will securely collect data from our games and make use of that data to drive better player experiences; doing all of this in a way that caters to the needs of our Chinese players.

As an Associate Director in this role, you will not only be responsible for building a data platform, but establishing a team to do so. Doing so will necessitate a strong leadership background in growing and managing teams. On top of this, as an Associate Director, you will need to have strong communication skills since they will be required to work with colleagues and vendors in other offices around the world.

Responsibilities

• Architect a Data Platform that collects, stores, and processes data into formats that drive business values such as reports, visualizations, data models, and alerts
• Build and manage a team that will include data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and program managers
• Work closely with cloud vendors to help build the data platform
• Be the expert for all questions related to Data collection and analysis in China
• Partner closely with colleagues in other parts of the world to help build features and capabilities
• Collaborate with local resources from China partnership to guide analytics and reporting services for business needs
• Work with a develop relationships with cloud vendors
• Communicate progress with executive leadership

Requirements

• MA/BS in computer science, engineering or related major or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 12+ years of professional experience, preferably with some experience in the gaming/entertainment industry
• Ability to envision and architect a data platform solution that meets the needs of our China operations
• Experience with pipelines at scale, strong architecture chops, for example Kafka, Spark, Flink, Publisher/Subscriber, Oracle, GoldenGate, Airflow, DBT, Java, Scala, Lambda Architecture, Kappa Architecture, and Cloud
• Strong leadership, solid team building experience, and mentorship abilities
• Relentless drive for quality
• Fluent in English and Mandarin
