No prior testing experience is required. The position entails “testing” in the traditional sense, albeit with a dedicated focus towards our accessibility features. Manipulation of software to expose defects, the investigation, repetition, and recording of those defects in an online database, and regression of those defects once claimed fixed. The accessibility tester is expected to learn the best practices of NDQA working closely with more experienced teammates, gain familiarity with our hardware and software, and form positive working relationships with other NDQA staff. They will be tasked with testing out and refining accessibility features, conveying feedback to accessibility designers, writing and deploying suitable accessibility test cases to the full team, and making recommendations for accessibility focus testing when needed.
The role requires a detail oriented individual with excellent communication ability, comfortable working in a group setting. They should be self-motivating, and have a passion for advancing accessibility features throughout the gaming industry.
Responsibilities:
- Able to learn and apply NDQA best practices for bug reporting and regression (dupes, global bugs, critical issue reporting)
- Responsive to constructive critique to improve performance
- Works well as a teammate to others within NDQA
- Able to provide detailed accessibility feedback to design and programming teams
- Reliable in both attendance and task completion. Voices blockers when completion is stalled
- Able to learn and apply fundamentals of ND pipeline over first contract(s)
- Provides feedback when requested to Leads and Senior QA on applicability of test cases, and testing methodology
Requirements & Skills:
- Manipulate software, isolate defects, report defects in bug database, regress defects once fixes entered
- Effective communication of issues, regressions, and bugs requiring additional information both written and verbal
- Follow written and verbal instruction as member of a team
- Conduct specific testing tasks (i.e. performance passes) per request
- Can complete simple development support tasks when needed
- Deeply familiar with accessibility features for The Last of Us: Part 2
- Knowledgeable about accessibility testing standards, including Section 508 and WCAG
- Familiar with industry trends regarding accessibility, assistive technologies and peripheral devices
Bonus Skills:
- Formal post-high school education (college, technical school, etc.)
