2D Artists (Contract)

It’s a really exciting time to be at Space Ape Games. We’ve created a fast-paced environment that promotes genuine autonomy and we have projects at all stages of the development cycle. We launched our hit music game, Beatstar, in 2021 and we’re following its success with Countrystar less than two years later. We also officially launched our first puzzle game in July, Chrome Valley Customs, and we’re preparing to scale this game to global success. On top of all this, we’re running several mature live games and working on some exciting new projects behind the scenes!
We seek a wide variety of passionate, talented 2D artists to help with all aspects of art production, marketing and development. Working across a wide portfolio of new, in-development and live titles, you will be responsible for creating conceptual art, illustrations and storyboards while helping with visual development and creative direction on some of our new and exciting projects.
Responsibilities
- Drive visual development, artistic direction, and brand creation for our new titles.
- Create high-quality 2D game illustrations from idea generation to production and delivery.
- Creating 2D concept art efficiently for environments, buildings, and props.
- Creating storyboards for trailers as a starting point for our marketing team and partners.
- Designing the look and persona of new characters based on story requirements and brief.
- Create mood boards and style guides to present to key stakeholders as required.
- Iterate on game assets with artists via paintovers, studies, and group critiques.
- Managing your assets and time efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Responding positively to notes and feedback.
Requirements
- Experience of creating artwork for games, animation or film with a solid portfolio of work
- An exceptional understanding of human and creature anatomy
- An eye for form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regard to illustration and design
- Good composition, lighting and colour theory skills
- Able to carry an idea from the conceptual phase to the finished illustration.
- Ability to move quickly and comfortably between a range of art styles.
- An understanding of cinematic language, framing and direction for animation.
- A proactive approach to communication and the ability to articulate concepts clearly.
- Enjoy working as part of a team, enjoying the feedback process.
- Strong knowledge of Photoshop or similar software, 3D skills being a bonus.
