Web Designer
We're looking for a web design contractor to design and develop Bigscreen's website.
Website Projects
1. Our main informational website
bigscreenvr.com is a year out of date. Work with the product team to keep the website updated with the latest images, videos, and product descriptions.
2. Movie ticket/events webpage
We have a functional Stripe/Accounts backend already, but only a simple functional frontend. The events webpage needs design to explain the concept/product, describe the available movies & showtimes, and guide the user to purchase. The purchase flow needs to be designed and integrated with our backend
3. Social hub webpage
We have a Bigscreen Accounts backend system in production, but only a simple functional frontend. We need a web frontend that allows a user to View/Edit their Account on our website and view a couple lists of realtime data exposed by our API (lists of rooms, friends, images, etc.)
4. Occasional marketing landing webpages
Design
We're looking for a consistent design across the main site, the social website, and mini-sites. Either build off our existing design or work on a new one. Currently, we're not looking for a new logo or a new typeface.
Mobile
We aren't currently looking for native iOS/Android applications yet, but mobile-friendly design is a basic requirement especially for our events & social hub webpages.
Stretch Goal
For later in 2019 (not an immediate priority)
If you have prior experience with WebRTC, you could develop a non-VR version of Bigscreen that runs in the web browser. This would be something like Google Hangouts/Skype, where you see a screen in your browser, along with bidirectional voice chat with other participants in the room. This would integrate with our existing WebRTC-based VR product. We have a prototype of this, you would design and productize this.
Requirements
- Ability to design and code websites
- Strong visual web design skills
- Strong front-end development skills
- Strong understanding of modern web tools and integrating with backend APIs
- Good understanding of web optimization techniques (SEO, bandwidth/speed optimization, mobile optimization)
- Strong communication skills in English
- Prior experience with good practices & workflows for achieving good results
- Prior experience shipping consumer web products
VR: Prior VR experience is not required, but appreciated. Tell us about your experience with VR
Location: anywhere worldwide. We are a fully remote team. We prefer if your work hours overlap +/- 5 hours of California (Pacific Time) in order for easier collaboration.
Portfolio: please share screenshots/websites that you have designed & developed. This is the most important criteria for us.
Full-time / Part-time: this is currently a contractor position, part-time, but we are open to making this a full-time position in the future based on your initial work
About Bigscreen
Bigscreen is a "VR movie theater"
Over the next 10 years, our goal is to build useful software for VR/AR headsets that people could use for 10 hours a day, every day, for telepresence/collaboration with coworkers, and social entertainment with friends. We believe VR/AR headsets will replace most screens (TVs, laptops, etc.) in 5-10 years.
In the next year, we will expand Bigscreen to more VR/AR headsets (ex. PlayStation) and release major product updates such as new avatars, new environments, friend systems, and new paid/premium features such as selling virtual movie tickets to premium movie showings.
