VR UI/UX Designer

Waves are live, interactive and immersive shows that are unlike any virtual concert you have ever experienced. We combine the best of live music, gaming and broadcast technology to transform the live music experience. Waves are live streamed globally on wave.watch and across popular social and gaming platforms including YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, TikTok, Facebook and Roblox.
We are looking for a UX/UI designer with a strong background in VR games and/or VR social apps, who will help define the customer experience and UI design for our apps which enable our audiences to attend our virtual performances in VR. You will design, prototype, test and iterate based on design reviews, internal and external playtesting, A/B testing, customer support feedback and customer behavioral data. You’ll collaborate with product owners, interaction designers and software developers to create innovative UX and UI that enable audiences to connect with performers and each other within new live interactive entertainment formats.
The ideal candidate will be resourceful, ruthlessly customer focused, team oriented, and will have broad experience and proven success in UX/UI and customer journey design for consumer-facing VR apps. Prior experience with user testing and user generated content community applications is highly desired.
This can be a direct hire or contract to hire position depending on preference.
Responsibilities
- Partner with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to design user experiences from conception to launch
- Create innovative experiences by delivering UX solutions, designs, and specifications
- Engage with Wave Attendees, plan and execute research studies, and leverage data and evidence to make confident design decisions
- Participate in all aspects of the design process to frame problems, research use cases and users, run playtests, define insights, share your vision, prototype and produce launch-ready assets
- Support the engineering team through regular collaboration and delivery of production-ready assets and specifications
- Lead broader design initiatives, such as creating future visions for upcoming products and features
- Deliver appropriate level of design artifacts for the team (e.g., strategy articulation, discovery/ research results, journey maps, flows, wireframes, mockups and/or prototypes)
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years experience designing best-of-class VR/AR consumer products
- Experience across the full product development spectrum: from ideation and strategy to hands-on implementation
- Comfort in navigating problems and opportunities autonomously and independently
- Strong strategic thinking, collaboration, and communication skills
- Comfortable with cross-functional collaboration between Design, Product, Engineering, and Marketing
- Strong customer focus: ability to conduct user research and translate insights from customer interviews, playtests and user behavior metrics into actionable design solutions
- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills; willing to provide and receive constructive feedback as a part of the creative process
- An available online portfolio that showcases sound product thinking and strong design rationale through navigation, user flows, interaction design, and information architecture
- Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience
- User experience design skill set including data-driven analytics capabilities, user workflow diagramming, wireframing and prototyping
- Experienced with Adobe CS; prototyping in Figma and/or Invision; wireframing in XD, Sketch or equivalent
Desired Qualifications
- Experience designing VR/AR games, social networking / communication apps, user generated content community apps
- Experience designing Mobile applications
- Visual design skills with a good eye for composition, fonts and color
- Experience working in startups
- Familiarity with game engines like Unreal and Unity
