Primary Functions
The VP of Data is the technical owner for our data engineering and reporting systems and team. This role will be a key contributor and thought leader in the development of Tilia’s data platform and strategy. In addition to directly managing the data team, this leader will provide guidance, direction and enablement support to reporting to all stakeholders within the company, drive reporting solutions for our customers, and find new ways to use our data to drive more value for the business. The most critical product will be payment data that must be delivered to our customers on a daily basis which will need to scale to thousands of customers.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CTO to set the vision for the data architecture and build a roadmap to ensure successful implementation.
- Lead a team of reporting and data analysis professionals to deliver and guide the company through high-quality data-driven business analyses, empirically-derived analytic models, and strategies that address business issues and provide key insights.
- Deliver Payment reporting data to our customers on a daily basis. This system will need to scale to thousands of customers and, of course, always be accurate.
- Expand the team as needed based on the targeted data-related goals.
- Partner with business and technical teams in analysis of unique business problems and employ creative solutioning to deliver actionable output.
- Develop reports and analytical tools to help sales, compliance and other teams, lending dedicated support to other business areas as appropriate.
- Establish and measure benchmarks and key performance indicators of the overall health of business, as well as success metrics for product and marketing initiatives.
- Develop a talent enhancement plan for the team including development activities and career pathing.
- Drive corporate strategy by ensuring enterprise data, BI activity and technologies are aligned.
- Leverage market best practices with shrewd recommendations about the technology footprint.
- Inform and support development of machine learning and AI techniques to improve key processes across our business.
- Champion and raise the bar for analytical rigor across the organization while also introducing new approaches and techniques.
- Develop and manage roadmap and accountability frameworks that support long-term strategic plans for analytics deliverables.

- Knowledge of financial reporting needs - particularly payment data.
- Knowledge of big data (structured/unstructured, real-time/streaming data, external and non-traditional data sources) combined with analytical, technical and business acumen.
- Effective in developing cutting edge data strategies but not afraid to personally roll up your sleeves and dive into the details.
- Proven capabilities in short and long-range planning and delivering partnership initiatives.
- Ability to distill technical concepts and insights into simple terms and dynamically tailor your approach and communication style to fit diverse stakeholder needs from the executive team to the front lines.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and partnering on initiatives with people across the organization where the best ideas can come from many contributors at all levels.
- Adept at employing effective and adaptable leadership skills as well as prioritizing and managing a complex deliverables portfolio in a dynamic environment.
- Passionate about nurturing your team’s development and creating the next generation of leaders.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic training and experience.
Experience
- 10+ years experience in analytics, data science, business intelligence or other quantitative disciplines solving business problems through application of innovative data and analytics approaches and emerging technologies.
- 10+ years of successful people management and development experience, with a preference for experience leading virtual technical teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in innovation across multiple areas including: data science, machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, IoT, big data.
- Proven track record of providing thought leadership on challenging problems with examples of implementing innovative analytic/data science solutions and driving outstanding results.
