VFX Graphics Programmer

We have a fantastic opportunity for an individual who has a real passion for VFX, to join our development team working on exciting new projects in our Total War franchise. This role will be based at our studio in Horsham, West Sussex.
This is a great opportunity to contribute to a new core technology initiative. Working as a VFX Programmer in our VFX team alongside our experienced graphics team, you will have the opportunity to leverage the latest rendering techniques to push forward the look and feel of our games.
You will work collaboratively with several teams, bringing a creative mindset to question the limits of graphics programming and make a real contribution to the player experience on a world-leading strategy game franchise.
Flexible working at Creative Assembly includes hybrid, fully remote within country of employment for eligible roles, and in-studio. We recognise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach and empower our teams to define the working patterns which work best for them, which may mean different things for different teams and roles and at different times.
This role is Hybrid and has an expectation of at least 1 day per week in our Horsham studio. This role cannot offer fully remote working. Further details can be discussed during the recruitment process.
Key Responsibilities
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
- Research and implement state-of-the-art VFX related technologies
- Have an opportunity to dive deep into our in-house Total War graphics engine and drive your own passion of VFX on both engine and editor sides
- Work on a high-performance system that will not only push your knowledge on GPU/CPU optimizations and game graphics programming, but also include design, implementation, debugging and documentation.
Collaboration and open communication are the main aspects behind our success as a team as you will be working closely with VFX Artists and Game teams on solving problems and implementing new features.Knowledge, Skill and Experience
Essential
- Passionate about in-Game VFX development, particle-based simulation, and various simulation techniques presenting nature phenomenal
- Understand the application of SM5.0 Compute shader or equivalent
- A good understanding of DirectX 11 (or equivalent) rendering pipeline
- Comfortable with C++ developing environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Love of games.
Desirable
- Be able to demonstrate GPU Particle based simulation/rendering techniques
- High performance system, multi-threaded / multi-core development experience
- Familiar with DirectX 12, Vulkan or equivalent API
- Good communication skills; both written and verbal
- Enjoy playing RTS games or thorough appreciation of the Total War franchise.
