VFX Artist

Job Description

You will have responsibility of developing all visual effects to enhance the gamer’s experience throughout the game. This is a crucial role for the studio and we want to find that VFX-artist who can push us to the next level. You will be following the Producer and Creative Manager vision for the game and work closely together with the studios art team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Conceptualize, design, and create stunning in-game visual effects (modeling, texturing, animating, lighting, shaders, etc) by using available tools in a real-time engine.
• Work collaboratively with game designers and engineers to understand and interpret gameplay requirements to communicate gameplay mechanics to the player within the constraints of the engine.
• Work with the art team to define a consistent style for VFX and to ensure the quality of the assets for all aspects of the project.
• Ensure that VFX assets are built efficiently and within the given deadlines.
• Prepare assets for export to the game engine and/or integrate your VFX into the Unity game engine in coordination with the animators and developers.
• Provide creative and innovative solutions to technical art problems and/or restrictions.
• Help in developing tools & refining pipelines for the art production process, including batching and automation.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of particle systems, shaders, and procedural animation.
• Experience in particle systems and special effects with 3DSMax, ParticleFlow and other relevant software
• Understand FX workflows and tools with the ability to modify and improve them.
• Ability to evaluate the competitive products and learn from their VFX implementation solutions.
• A keen eye for motion, compositing, and animation.
• Be forward-thinking and anticipate the needs of your project.
• Able to keep content relevant to the current project's art style and work within those limitations.
• Ability to accept feedback, and responds to criticism positively.
• Be enthusiastic and expect to take on challenges.
• Be a team player: we use agile development methods, where the team members are in permanent contact. An open mind and good communication skills are a must
• Ability to multi-task and adapt easily to change. The high degree of self-motivation and initiative.

We also appreciate the following qualities:

• Willingness and ability to contribute occasionally to other art (beyond VFX) a big plus.
• You master the basic particle system on the Unity game engine
• Experience with 2D and 3D animated VFX.
• Experience or knowledge of repository tools (Git, SVN…)
• Scripting knowledge (Mel/Maxscript, Python, etc)
• Programming experience is considered a bonus as are traditional drawing, painting or sculpting skills.
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Passion for games and some knowledge of the games industry
