Job Description
Ubisoft is currently seeking a VFX Artist with our studio located in Halifax. As the VFX artist, you will be responsible for the design, creation and implementation of in game effects while respecting all technological limitations associated with mobile development, and following the artistic direction of the production. The VFX Artist is required to work on all elements needed to polish both UI feedback and in-game environment and actions.
Main Responsibilities:
- Create realistic and stylized visual FX including lava, smoke and fire utilizing rigid body dynamics, particles and shaders
- Follow concept art, story boards, and written descriptions to prototype and implement FX in game
- Maintain a strong knowledge of the game's design, create concept art, story boards, written descriptions etc. in order to support
- Consistently interact and collaborate with Art Lead/Director to ensure VFX remains stylistically consistent to the overall visual style/game atmosphere of the project
- Create and integrate skydomes/boxes, static/dynamic lighting, and reflection probes for all scenes and/or levels
- Act as an integral bridge between design, art, and tech to find the best way to implement visual feedback for gameplay mechanics
- Profile all particles and shaders for optimizing them to maximize performance
- Create and integrate in-game UI feedback VFX, environmental VFX, character VFX and gameplay event VFX
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Must possess proficient photoshop (or equivalent) capabilities
- Must be highly skilled in utilizing Unity and 3DS Max as primary content creation packages
- Possesses a strong working knowledge of most game development tools (3DS Studio Max, Photoshop, custom tools, etc.)
- Competent in sprite sheet creation to be used in animated sequences
- Capable of utilizing in-depth knowledge to implement mobile friendly particle effects
- Must possess prior experience in developing content on the mobile platform
- Ability to create pre-visualization concepts through a variety of technical avenues in order to drive visual direction
- Capable of demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to utilize strong organization, time management, and prioritization capabilities
- A working knowledge of game engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine ect.
Assets:
- Experience utilizing MAXscript AFter Effects, Unity, Popcorn FX or equivalent
- Prior scripting experience in CG shader, Python, Max etc.
- A firm understanding of basic trigonometry and vector math in order to better facilitate the creation of VFX
- Perforce experience or equivalent
- Polygon modeling knowledge in a DCC package (preferably 3DS Max)
- Capable of utilizing 'simulation tools' such as Houdini
- Knowledge surrounding authoring custom materials and graphics shader techniques
