VFX Artist

The VFX Artist is responsible for developing beautifully striking VFX content that works within performance targets. They must demonstrate a depth of experience working with other disciplines to get the most out of the game engine and current tools as well as help identify new tools and tech needed to create outstanding VFX. This particular role also aids in Outsourcing duties including feedback and reviews.
Responsibilities:
- Design, create and implement AAA-quality visual effects using particles, animation, materials, sprites, custom shaders, and more
- Work closely with all departments to ensure that art direction, gameplay, and technical requirements are met
- Ensure that VFX are optimized and meet performance requirements
- Keep up to date with new technologies and industry best practices to help advance the visual quality bar for our products
- Rapidly prototype, iterate and refine ideas based on feedback
Requirements:
- 1+ year of experience in the game industry, including at least one shipped title
- Good understanding of composition, color, lighting, and visual storytelling
- Ability to create interesting, detailed and visually appealing real-time VFX
- Experience working with UE4, developing VFX in Cascade or Niagra
- Experience working in Maya or 3DS Max and Photoshop
- Knowledge of optimization techniques for models, textures, materials, levels
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Experience managing and mentoring internal and external artists
- Excellent time management skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work on a team
- A real passion for games
Pluses:
- Experience with Houdini
- Previous FPS military shooter experience
- Experience working with outsourcing pipelines and teams
Submission/Portfolio Requirements:
- Portfolio demonstrating relevant artistic skills required
- Only online artwork submissions will be accepted (e.g. website, blog, or online album)
- Be willing to complete an art test if requested to do so.
- Strong understanding of current art pipelines for game development
- Ability to generate clean and efficient VFX assets at a fast pace
- Strong artistic ability to visualize final products with sometimes minimal concept art
- Strong technical ability to manage assets that fit memory, design, and frame rate limits
- Efficient organization and communication skills and ability to prioritize and execute ideas within a schedule
- Excellent technical and artistic problem solving skills
- Must have a relevant VFX portfolio to apply
- 1+ years experience in VFX in games
