Job Description
The Visual Effects Artist implements, under supervision, video game special effects in accordance with a project’s artistic direction and production deadlines.
The ideal candidate should have strong artistic skills, and an understanding of the technical constraints on the target platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Creating FX/Special Effects for Games which should be optimized for various platforms.
- Making Sprite Sheets FX animations/Image Sequence, Particle system in 3ds Max, Unity and various other engines.
- You will use a variety of particle systems, creates all aspects of special effects artwork:
- Particle system templates and animation
- Particle textures
- Particle models (as necessary)
- Lighting
- Comes up with creative ideas and solutions and communicates them to the leads
- Works with the lead to create a plan and schedule
- Proactively communicates task status to peers, customers, and leads
- Regularly follows up on the status of dependencies that are holding up the task
- Corrects defects discovered by QC or customers in a timely fashion.
- Provides self-assessment on how to improve own performance.
- Works within the technical limitations of a variety of game engines.
- Matches the required art style of a project
- Works closely with direction of Creative Leadership to create high quality visual effects
- Collaborates with Graphics Technical Artist to ensure necessary technology/ features are present to reach the visual benchmarks
- Creates and maintains workflow documentation for your team's content
- Shares artistic knowledge with artists, and supports them when needed
Qualification
- Minimum 3 years of experience in creating FX
- Advance Knowledge of 3Ds Max Particle system, Rigid Bodies.
- Advance Knowledge of After Effects with Particle system and Filters.
- Basic Knowledge of animation and modifiers in 3Ds Max.
- Rendering and Lighting knowledge in 3Ds Max using Scanline and Mental Ray.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint)
- Good understanding of art fundamentals: color theory, lighting, shape, composition, etc
- Good knowledge of in-game special effects, including:
- Smoke
- Explosions
- Fire
- Weather
- Atmospherics
- Water
- Light/Energy
- Damage
- Full screen filters
- Post processing
- Must be creative and be able to adapt to a variety of art styles
- Knowledge of various engines and particles systems is a plus.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Other Skills:
- Good organization skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written).
- Considerable understanding of video games and broad video game culture.
- Self-motivated and agile.
