VFX Artist I - League of Legends, Personalization

As part of the Real-Time VFX team, you’ll design and help implement the sleek, dynamic and dramatic special effects that add atmosphere and depth to gameplay. With your experience, you’ll create aesthetically astounding visual effects that communicate essential game information. You’ll use your artistic and technical skills to breathe life into undead spells, channel primal emotions and express the essence of hundreds of champions in diverse skin thematics.

As a VFX Artist I on the Player Immersion and Expression team, you will report to the VFX Craft Lead. With the support of the team you will create the visuals for new skins, wards, and emotes for League of Legends. There is one VFX artist per production pod, so the artist is accountable for the holistic ownership and execution of skin customization for existing champion abilities. This means a strong willingness to be part of a highly inclusive and collaborative team. Associate artists have a steep growth trajectory, and with the help of those around them, are encouraged to focus on execution and growth.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement the sleek, dynamic, and dramatic special effects that re-imagine ability visuals in different universes that broaden the League IP
• Balance gameplay needs and thematic direction while hitting craft quality benchmarks for VFX consistently
• Create aesthetically astounding visual effects that communicate essential game information and capture the essence of hundreds of characters with guidance
• Seek growth opportunities from team members in and out of product space that work towards growth goals
• If needed, work with other teams to represent established sources of power in skin universes
• Create thematically resonant effects for wards and emotes.

Required Qualifications:

• 2+ years of professional experience
• Knowledge of the MOBA genre as it pertains to game design, isometric content and visual clarity
• Competency in creating common assets used in FX such as meshes, and textures
• Demonstrated grasp on artistic fundamentals in color theory, timing, and value hierarchy

Desired Qualifications:

• Familiarity with the League of Legends IP and skins universes
• Experience with Maya and Photoshop
• Experience giving and receiving creative feedback
• Experience scoping and timeboxing VFX
• Knowledge of the VFX optimization common practices

As a part of the application process, you will be expected to provide a portfolio or demo reel of your work and may be asked to complete an art test.
