User Research Lab Team Lead

Job Description
At Ubisoft Montreal’s User Research Lab, we contribute to creating the best gaming experiences by putting players at the centre of the design process.
Working hand in hand with production teams, we leverage in-depth player insights to guide their decision-making, combining state-of-the-art qualitative and quantitative research through a wide variety of methodologies and data sources to do so.
As a Team Lead within the Lab, you’ll be responsible for guiding a user research team and overseeing the quality of their field work.
You’ll also foster collaboration with various partners inside and outside the Lab and contribute to developing the department’s managerial vision.
What you’ll do
- Make use of appropriate methodologies and processes leading to industry-leading research.
- Develop and optimize user research and team workflows.
- Anticipate resource requirements + provide your team members with all they need to work efficiently and achieve quality (tools, documentation, communication channels, etc.).
- Regularly meet your team members to prioritize deliverables, discuss progress, brainstorm ideas, give updates, provide feedback and coaching, etc.
- Foster multidisciplinary collaboration and open communication with other user research teams and partners throughout the company.
- Work closely with Lab leads to stay on top of overall progress + ensure the quality of deliverables.
- Evangelize the benefits/return on investment of successful user research integration across the studio.
- Carry out the annual evaluations of your team members.
- Participate in recruitment to build your team of user researchers + foster their professional growth and career progression.
Qualifications
What you bring
- Around 3 years of experience in user research, UX, ergonomics (or other relevant experience)
- Experience building and managing diverse teams + an understanding of equality and diversity issues
- In-depth knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and tools
- A degree in Ergonomics, Human Computer Interaction, or Psychology (or other relevant training)
- Familiarity with the video game development cycle (experience in the industry, a plus)
- A collaborative and solution-oriented spirit + an agile and adaptive mindset
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, and mentorship capabilities
- The ability to communicate and delegate with diplomacy and tact
- Motivation to continue refining your skills and knowledge (related to user research methods and techniques, project management, communication – you name it)
Nice to have:
- An understanding of statistical methods as applied to user research
- Experience in knowledge sharing (training, coaching, etc.)
- Experience in stakeholder management in a large organization
- Training in game design or game development
