Unity Developer for VR Project
What is the position?
You will be working with a team of 8 inside a small company of 25. We're working on a project for VR that involves an immersive exploration mechanic that is focused on theme parks. We're looking for a developer that can add interactive elements and optimization to our project.
A note.
We're a company who has been doing dev and design for 20 years. We have built games and we have built apps and we have evolved a lot. So much of our past knowledge translates to this new project. But let's be honest. Unity is its own thing. We've been functioning a lot on using our current developers to write C# and take a mostly web and app dev pipeline and adapt it to Unity. This is... Good not great. We've been hiring for this position for awhile. Freelancers. Test projects. Talking and searching. Here's what is out there in the world.
- People who have "been working" in Unity for years. (This means that they are a full time dev at a button up shirt place and they halfway built an FPS on a few weekends one time)
- A "Unity specialist" (This means that they have or are working in the insane churn and burn high pay, high BS world of big biz game dev)
We are hoping to find someone. If you exist. Who is between the extremes. You actually know your way around Unity at more of a professional level. You might have the skills to work at a bigger place but you actually want to build stuff, not just attend meetings and fill out paperwork.
What are we looking for
- Solid C# coding -specific to Unity
- General 3d toolchain knowledge. You do not need to be a modeler. But you should understand modeling and be able to like... Open a model up and move a pivot instead of having to ask.
- Knowledge of optimization - We're building a small world so culling and dynamic loading and tricks would help.
- Interaction - Unity XR has so many built in tools and modules for interaction. Knowing how to build on top of that stuff. Tweak. Polish. We seem to have so far found people who either want to start from scratch or are stuck with the default.
- This is a VR project. VR knowledge would help. Is it a requirement... No. But the perfect candidate would probably have some VR experience because they are as excited about the potential as we are and they couldn't wait to get their eyes on it.
- A solid team person who is easy to get along with and legit is having fun building a game and trying to make something really cool for the world to climb inside of.
Benefits
- 2 months maternity leave/1 month paternity leave
- Flexible vacations
- Paid sick leave
- Flexible work hours (only requirement is a few hours a day of overlap with your team)
- It's a bonus for game dev when you have good hardware... But if the right candidate had the wrong hardware we would help out there.
Please note that apply thing above. If this is like most job posts we will get flooded! Flooded. So please include that random ass subject line or else you might get lost in the shuffle. Unity231234
