UX Director

As UX Director, you ensure outstanding user experiences across the breadth of the game's systems, content, and creation tools. You are responsible for the execution of user experience design and flow, from concepts and prototypes to implementation and asset creation. Drive innovation in design with tight iterative loops while working in concert with external research resources to get targeted feedback from a variety of player types. Analyze feedback and behavioral data from research studies and ongoing telemetry and transform that into positive player-focused outcomes. Create wonderful, accessible experiences for players.
Reporting to the Design Director, this role collaborates with disciplines across the entire project through all stages of development.
Core Responsibilities & Objectives
- Curate and manage a best-in-industry UX team. Support the career development of direct reports to ensure job satisfaction, retention, and to identify and develop bench strength. Drive goal setting, performance review, hiring decisions, and team culture
- Work as part of cross-functional teams to support the design and implementation of new systems and content
- Establish player-centered best practices and standards for the across the entire project, ensuring that the game is designed to optimize iteration and accessibility.
- Help design systems and procedures to filter, prioritize, and manage feedback from a variety of sources
- Document, support, and guide adoption of UX workflow
- Provide feedback and guidance across the entire project. Advocate for players with plans to improve controls, tools, accessibility, etc
- Coordinate with a world-class user research team to test UX theories and propose changes that increase player satisfaction
- Identify and define player personas. Understand these archetypes deeply and work to anticipate the ways that personas change over time
- Identify and support player needs across a spectrum of personas during live development
- Distill user research, competitive analysis, and feedback into player-focused success metrics
- Apply psychological principles, ergonomics, and cognitive science to design holistic experiences for various abilities, motivations and needs
- Curate and maintain a consistent visual identity language that supports the experience
Core Traits (Skills, Knowledge, Experience)
- Empathetic understanding of players covering a wide spectrum of mobility, cognitive, emotional, and social needs
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Extensive UX design toolkit for different stages of development (journey mapping, empathy maps, personas/archetypes, user scenarios, site maps, flows, wireframes, and prototypes, etc)
- Experience designing intuitive player-facing content creation tools for a variety of devices or platforms
- Experience with a variety of communication and prototyping tools to craft artifacts used to explore and test UX design plans.
- Strong ability to collaborate and influence across multiple disciplines; ability to create consensus
- Good communication skills: skilled listener and adept in expressing yourself
- Ability to both receive and deliver constructive criticism
Bonus Traits
- Experience creating tools for user-generated content.
- Experience prototyping with Unity/Unreal engines and/or other platforms.
- Experience doing iterative UX work on a live, service-based game.

- Close vision to monitors and screens, consistently working on computer equipment such as keyboards and monitors, long periods of sitting.
