UX Designer and UI Artist

About the Role

As a UX Designer and UI Artist at Pahdo Labs, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the user experience of our upcoming anime-inspired game, codenamed Halcyon Dive. This is a hybrid position that combines UX design and UI art in a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment. You will be responsible for prototyping user flows, designing intuitive interfaces, and creating visually stunning elements that delight our players. In this role, you’ll work closely with our UI Engineer, UI Artist, and Creative Director to shape the user interface and visual flair of our game.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and prototype user flows in Figma, working closely with our UI engineer to iterate, solidify, and implement changes
• Transform user flows into production-ready, skinned user interfaces that match the visual style set forth in our artistic vision and existing interfaces
• Collaborate closely with our UI Artist and Creative Director to ensure stylistic consistency, visual appeal and accurate communication of game systems
• Create and maintain design systems, working closely with our UI engineer to drive adoption and ensure consistency in their usage
• Participate in internal and external closed playtesting sessions to gather feedback and iterate on designs

• Design 2D animations and motion design elements to enhance the interactivity and magic of user experiences

Required Qualifications

• Strong sense of design, aesthetic, and usability
• 3+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design, preferably in the gaming industry
• Diverse portfolio demonstrating expertise in UI art, UX design, and motion design
• Proficiency in Figma and other industry-standard design tools
• Solid understanding of game design principles and player-centric design
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions, take and receive feedback, and adapt to new information
• Ability to work autonomously and take initiative in a fast-paced environment

• Passion for anime and/or video games, with knowledge of current trends in both industries

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with 2D UI animation and motion design
• Experience working on multiplayer online games or live service games
• Familiarity with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine
• Experience with popular web development frameworks, such as React
• Experience conducting and analyzing user research and playtesting sessions

• Experience working on games that have been released (whether big or small)

• Base salary bands based on experience, plus competitive equity:
  • NYC Base Pay Range (L2 - Mid/Sr.): $85.7K - $120K
  • NYC Base Pay Level (L3 - Sr./Principal): $107K - $150K
  • Remote USA (Outside NY) Base Pay Level (L3 - Sr./Principal): $100K - $120K
  • Remote Canada Base Pay Level (L3 - Sr./Principal): CA$107K - CA$150K
