As a UI & Tools Software Engineer in the LA Studio you will use Qt, Python, and C++ to enable our artists, designers and other engineers to be better able to update data and assets for Genies and Gems. When we need to look at how our UI in game matches our UI mockups, or extend our level editor, or look at a font character issue for localization, you are able to dive in. By looking at our existing support and investigating alternatives you can propose and implement the required tools-to-engine changes to make new experiences and improved performance a reality for our game, with help from the rest of the engineering team of course.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Client-related game software development to build fun, high-quality gameplay and user interface features to meet design and product needs.
- Delivering new UI features and components for our C++ game engine and Qt-based editor.
- Working with UX, game designers, artists, and engineers to deliver consistently improving experiences to our players.
- Ensure UI usability and performance across supported browsers and mobile devices (iOS, Android & Amazon).
- Set our asset guidance and dynamic UI tools & architecture.
- Drive the creation of scripts / tools to help streamline the development process.
- Solve challenging and complex problems around cross-platform app development.
- Create flexible code that can be easily updated as product needs change.
- Participate in an agile environment, keeping the team updated with your progress.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer in a fast-paced, small-mid team environment.
- 2-3 years game development experience.
- 1-2 years of development experience in C++.
- Familiarity with running asset optimizations and tool improvements for a product.
- Experience creating UI, animations and texture atlases for mobile.
- A passion for UI implementation with an uncompromising attention to detail.
- Understanding of UI wireframes, user flows, prototypes.
- An understanding of asset pipeline and best practices for mobile and/or live service games.
- Strong understanding of design patterns and modern, highly scalable application development.
- Organized, detail-oriented and able to deliver projects on time.
- Experience with iOS and/or Android development processes.
- Familiarity with Agile work environments.
- Knowledge of Git & GitHub.
- Passionate about games and game development.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly motivated, self-starting individual.
- BS in Computer Science (or equivalent).
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with Python scripting.
- Experience with Texture Packer atlas creation and optimization.
- Experience with Qt Creator and Qt packages.
