Job Description

«Do you know what it takes to create a novel audio experience for a game? Do you understand the challenges audio and music faces when generated procedurally? Can you translate an audio or adaptive music vision into programmer specifications and build the prototype to back it up? Don’t miss this opportunity! »

The Mission

We are looking for a Technical Sound Designer to join our studio for an ambitious unannounced game here in Stockholm Sweden.

Ubisoft Stockholm is looking for a Technical Sound Designer for an unannounced game. As part of the Audio Team, and the technical design expert of your discipline, you will be responsible both for defining and managing best practice audio workflows and tools, as well as being the technical driver in prototyping and defining audio and music system setups according to the creative vision.

Our Plan

We know you have fantastical powers and for us it is important you get to show your magic. To do this, we are creating strong autonomous teams with independent decision-making, and freedom to try out new things and show why it works. For us it is important that you get to shine by being creative: to take deliberate decisions, poke holes in things when required, to navigate through known pitfalls and care for your craft by honoring your commitments.

As a Technical Sound Designer you will be working with the Audio Director, Sound Designers and Audio programmers, as well as in close collaboration with Game Design. You would be responsible for the data gathering and scripting of audio. This also means keeping music and sound design aware of the possibilities created for it – as well as helping create new possibilities based on emerging needs, and also drive the design and function of the sound effect/mix systems and tools and pipelines, making sure the output is immersive, well balanced and a snug fit to the mechanics of the game.

In this role you will...

• Work along-side audio programmers and audio designers to define and develop the audio and music system framework, based on creative vision and game-play needs.

• Proof systemic and procedural design visions using node based visual scripting to prototype new and core system functionality.

• Implement complex systemic audio playback using node based visual scripting.

• Work together with the audio team to define music system setup and structural needs from a design workflow and functionality perspective.

• Be a key stakeholder in identifying and managing data mining needs from all game areas needed to secure the audio and music vision.

• Define and apply best practices of technical audio and music systems, tools and debugging functionality.

• Setup and manage Wwise project organization, structures, gameplay parameter setups and optimizations.

Qualifications

We would love if you...

• Are a seasoned audio developer in the open world paradigm of audio.

• Have extensive experience in defining and building systemic game logic structures.

• Are an expert in designing and managing procedurally generated audio and music systems

• Proficiently can use node based visual scripting languages

• Have experience within adaptive music systems and with the ability to think beyond established implementations

• Are a Wwise power user

• See yourself as a problem-solver who understands the importance of clear communication.

• Are used to working in an international environment and to express yourself fluently in English.
